The trends

Q100 set to break a 3 share soon!
DaveFm gets beat by Rock 100 in just 2 months.
Project gets a spike...how?
Star IS a mess
Kicks proves you can fire almost the entire air staff and still gain
*Im adding this late... The "Bull" gets.... uh... gored. Even with baseball they can't win. Hard to break into a market against an established Country product if you dont get aggresive. Bull's passive attitude is hurting them.

It IS just a trend but an interesting ond none the less.

Clear Channel continues to have big ratings problems due to the company's continually boneheaded decisions.

Cox is still king in the market, but they have to be oh-so-grateful to Clear Channel for some generous gifts. After all this time, I still can't get over how CC killed a successful AC station to go country in a market that had no hole for country.

LOL. At first all I read was "...big ratings" and I was like...uh...Roddy...are we looking at the same trends?

I can't imagine that CC is remotely pleased with WUBL's showing, especially considering the shakedown at Citadel and Eagle's disappearance. As a matter of fact, I can't imagine that CC is happy with any aspect of their performance this time around - when Project leads the 12+ with (look for yourself, I don't want to be censored for writing the actual number), that's an issue. Why don't they just sell the useless 96.7 signal and sink the money into bettering their stations?

More of the same for Q and Star. I hope the latter can stop the bleeding and ensure some CHR competition in Atlanta, especially if it'll keep WWWQ on its toes.

I have many friends on the southside of town and they would most definitely tell you 96.7 is not a "useless frequency" most people on here for some reason think anything on the southside of town is "useless" . I have friends that have told me they have heard the Legend everywhere they go in the south metro area. There are only so many high power frequencies out there and folks seem to think that if it's not 100kw it's of no use to anyone. There is a world outside of the perimeter, and there happens to be alot of money outside of it also, just look at 92.5 the Bear, it has been very successful and guess what it's not 100kw and "oh my gosh" it's on the southside of town.

In and of itself, 96.7 is not a "useless" signal. But I don't get the impression that CC is really making a concerted effort with the station. Other than the music itself, is there any programming on the station? I feel they'd be better off selling the frequency to a local owner who will focus efforts on building the station's brand in the south metro; CC could use whatever money the make off the sale to improve their remaining properties.

--Q100 definitely has the momentum over Star.
--Rock 100.5 with its 10kW is pulling more share than 2 100kW stations (Bull and Dave) and is within half a point of two others (Project and Star). In fact, Rock 100.5 is the weakest (signal-wise) non-Latino, non-Radio One (walkie-talkie) FM signal in the book.
--I think Project's spike is coming from them ditching the older AOR and going straight active rock (like the Buzz was), and picking up the harder 99X listeners along the way. It looks like the station hurting the most from the AOR moves is River-first time I have seen them lose share, probably to Rock 100.5.
--WJZZ and Dave get some badly needed share...probably from 99X's softer listeners in the latter case.
--Where did Beat's pop come from?
--Fish also continues to lose listeners.

On the hot seat: Bull (natch), Patron (especially once PPMs come in), maybe Dave, maybe Star.

IMO they should sell it to Davis so they can trimulcast La Raza, especially if CC sticks a fork in Patron. Of course, I couldn't see CC selling it to an obvious competitor if they don't 86 Patron.

What they should realize is that it is not so much Format as it is execution. WUBL has to be one of the worst sounding Country stations the format has.

They can change the music, but if the same people are running it from the top, it will be the worst sounding Peach or Active Rock or whatever - just like what they have now.

Media buyers base decisions on metro ratings. 96.7's signal is not strong enough to compete at all for metro ratings. So from that respect, it's almost useless for Clear Channel, which competes for Atlanta metro buys. As The Music Man said, a local owner selling to southside businesses could do well with 96.7.

What do you mean by worst sounding? Imaging? Certainly not the music!

the regular guys are smokin, to bad the rest of the station at rock 100 isn't there yet.
the music may be a question mark

How so? They seem to have a better AOR mix than 96 Rock had, especially towards the end of 96 Rock. No soft rock, easy on the mainstream classic rock, easy on the 90s active rock. There's other choices on the dial for each of those subgenres (B98.5, River, and Project, respectively). So, they're doing a good job filling a niche with stuff not heard elsewhere--60s deep/hard classics, 70s arena rock, 80s hair, etc. Stuff too hard for B98.5 or River and too old for Project.

I'll tip my hat to CC for getting rid of the old stuff on Project Buzzkill--good move. Rock 100.5 is kicking their tail with that demo, anyway.

Rock 100.5 doesn't seem to have a problem with burn, except when it comes to Def Leppard. I think I have heard every song of theirs that aired back in the day, several times, with the notable exception of "Rock Brigade".

And I think Axel did a good job with the transition from 99Xcrement.

I think 100.5's issue is one of penetration and getting some books under their belt, which all new stations have to deal with. Ad sales do seem to be picking up (good for them, bad for the listeners, but someone has to pay the bills ;D )

If Cumulus really wanted to yank CC's chain, they ought to ape or parody some old 96 Rock swag--100.5 Rockards, Rock & Roll Preppy t-shirts (heck, LaCoste is back, anyway), the ubiquitous buttons and stickers, etc. Bring Mark McCain in as a guest on TRG. Of course, you'd have to have been in the ATL 20-30 years (gosh, has it been that long?) to get some of the jokes.

Really???? Wow. Can't see where you're getting that. They've held steady in the mid 2's for over a year now.

I thought they used to solidly be in the threes...keep me honest here.

The Fish edged into the low threes probably more than a year ago then eased back to where it's held steady since before and after that time, mid to slightly upper 2's. Not a bad showing. ALWAYS in the top 12 or so, book after book.
