Giving thanks to Nashville radio

On this Thanksgiving, I thought it would be great for everyone to share what they are "thankful" for in Nashville radio.

#1 - 650 WSM - For hanging in there with music on AM, playing great classic country along with fantasic jocks and full-service elements. Yes, to me the music DOES sound good on AM.

#2 - WFSK 88.1 - For playing a great variety of contemporary jazz, better than most commercial jazz stations with their watered-down playlists.

#3 - WMOT 89.5 - For keeping traditional jazz alive, complimenting WFSK perfectly. When commercial FM gives you 3 basic music choices these days (rock, rap, country) it's nice to have some variety.

#4 - WVOL 1470 AM - For finally providing a liberal talk show (11am-1pm weekdays.) Not that I mind conservative talk, I'm middle-of-the-road myself, but it seems that everything else is right-wing. Right or wrong, I'd like some political balance so I can make up my own mind on issues. (I would have complimented WVOL's great classic soul playlist which I loved about a month ago, but all I ever hear on there now is the same hip hop that I hear on FM.)

Anyone care to add their own list?

#1 105.9 The Rock - For their strong signal that makes it to my house well enough to come in on a walkman 86 miles to the south, because our classic rock station on 106.1 is the worst one ever

and that's actually it<P ID="signature">______________

Living over 500 miles from Nashville, I most definitely give thanks for WSM 650. Without a doubt it is the best country station and I give thanks for Eddie Stubbs. Eddie knows Country music. I am glad he gets the mic when the entire landscape east of the rockies is able to tune him in on most nights. If not for Eddie Stubbs, the Opry, and WSM, am DXing would not be anything special anymore, because the other superstations all sound the same with either all news or news talk. It is basically the same syndicated hosts being broadcast market to market.

I am grateful for WSM and the fact that it has endured. Even if the station is not number one in Nashville Proper, know that WSM is appreciated far and wide, nationally and internationally.

Not only has the format endured, but WSM is the only Nashville station I know of that is live and local 24/7. Granted, I live far, far from Nashville, but I make trips through once in a while. And I hear your stories about Venus.

I'd like to add WLPN-AM 1430 to the "thankful" list. They air NPR's news/talk programs, many of which they don't carry on their FM station. I can't tell you how good it is to hear actual in-depth discussions of current events. No name calling and yelling, but actual news and info. What an idea! As they say at the burger joint, I'm lovin' it!
