Glad to hear dance/techno beats in hip-hop again

I know some of you may have discussed this before, but I am really pleased with some of the new material coming out lately. Kanye's new track "Stronger" backed up by Daft Punk, is a definate pleaser for me and sounds so different than what is on now. The other "The Way I Are" by Timbaland has a nostalgic feel for me and is a great dance track. Is this a sign of more things to come? Let's discuss. Hip-hop will not die, but hopefully it and dance can co-exist again like the 80's-90's.

When I first heard "Sexyback" I wondered if this was going to become a trend. Since it was Justin Timberlake's face on that song it wasn't an obvious merging of dance beats & hip-hop, but Timbaland was on the production so the right people knew wut was up.

While I'm personally not sold on "Stronger", "The Way I Are" is flying up the CHR/RHY chart. Don't know how these two songs are doing on the urban chart since I don't pay much attention to that.

When Hollaback Girl and Promiscuous Girl, and other songs like that starting creeping up on rhy top 40, that's when I started noticing a change. Back in the 80's and 90's, it wasn't uncommon to hear dance mixed with R&B on Urban stations. This was of course when rap music wasn't as commercialized and boring as most of it it now. Flash forward to now, Summer 2007 sounds great. There are a bunch of rhy/dance tunes out there like "Whine Up", "Untouchable", "Beautiful Girls", "The Way I Are", "Rehab", etc are all great examples of fun music again. I know most of you will say those aren't REAL dance tracks, but keep reading. It's time again for diversity and I can only see the dance creeping in more and more again. There are some tracks Rhythmic radio needs to pay attention to like Lola's "I Can't Take It", Jupiter Rising "Electropop", or Bob Sinclair's "World Hold On". Thoughts?

I totally agree about "The way I are" by Timbaland. His whole album is HOT and extremely unique. You will not find anything or anyone else sounding like that right now. It's very refreshing, and hopefully a sign of more to come. I miss the days when hip hop was really hip hop and R&B, Dance, and Hip Hop happily co-existed. Maybe we will actually be able to put on a hip hop track and REALLY dance again.

I like the dance beats and such--it's all a good comeback. Songs like Timbaland's "The Way I Are", Ciara's "Like A Boy", Rihanna's "Shut Up and Drive", and Nina Sky's "Get Your Clothes Off" are interesting to listen to and have a cool techno touch to them.

Enur's Calabria 2007 is huge in clubs here in NY... at hip hop clubs. The reggaeton station here plays it during mixshows. Im surprised this isnt getting play from CHR yet.

It finally gets some spin On XM's Rhythmic 68 the heat and I think it might have spun a time or 2 on Hot 97

Calabria is starting to get some air play on WBBM-FM/B96 Chicago lately, as well as DJ Antoine's "This Time." Dance Music is definitely startin to creep back into rhythmic top 40. If memory serves me correctly, I heard "Please Don't Stop the Music" by Rihanna on the air recently too.

You're not imaging things. B96 is playing "Don't Stop The Music."
