Gladiator Fire in the Bradshaws

Beau Duran said:
Looks like the transmitter sites for KAJM, KNRJ, KMVA, KKFR AND KVIB are in the cross hairs of this fire. According to a post on Angie Gomez' Facebook Sierra H is preparing for their transmitter to go at any time. They just sunk a lot of money into that site to move KNRJ up there. Hopefully the Firefighters can get a hold of this thing...

Is it wrong that when I see spelling errors on the KNRJ web site that I cringe? The fire is affecting the community, not effecting it. It's a calendar, not a calender. They have someone who makes very pretty web pages, but that person can't spell. I want to buy them one of these posters: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/misspelling

But yes, nobody wants to lose a new transmitter site.

As of Thursday night at 11pm Arizona time, KNRJ is dead air (the transmitter is still on the air, but no programming). They are still streaming "The Beat" programming on their website, and co-located sister station KAJM is still on the air at this time. The Towers Mountain stations (KKFR, KVIB, KMVA) are still broadcasting.

It appears that the fire might also be affecting KAZT-TV's signal from Prescott to Phoenix, as all three programming channels of KAZT-CD are down. I wonder how it is affecting the translators for Phoenix-based stations in Northern Arizona (I assume they make a microwave hop in Crown King?).

Michael Malace was on KSAZ-FOX 10 at 5 talking about Sierra H possibly loosing their signals. I didn't see the other 3 stations talking.

The Forest Service reported this morning that all external power to the area of Crown King has been lost due to the fire reaching a series of poles. As of this morning (5/21) the fire had moved far enough away that the power company was repairing the transmission line. The report I heard was not specific on the location of the affected power poles.

101.1 and 104.3 are both off air. The other transmitters in the area are still running. I'm guessing it could be a generator issue as the fire could be preventing power?

I assume you mean the transmitters for Sierra H are off the air? That means a generator problem, or that they've been on a generator for several days and ran out of propane. If they're just dead air then they are having an issue with the wireless T1 STL they use to get audio up there from Scottsdale.

KKFR for sure is on generator full time, they don't use APS for power. Not sure about KVIB or KMVA but those three are also on a different peak than the Sierra H duo, so that side (I believe Towers Mt?) could still be getting juice from APS.

It's not the T1, you would still hear the carrier current likr on thursday or friday....I know, we have has T1 Issues at KVIT....and if it was T1 there would be a loop on 104.3, it is the power/generator.
I Hope it comes back soon, and hope the fire doesn't do any more damage to the communities up there.

This is what 101.1 The Beat said on their facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/azthebeat/posts/358255074228266

"At 2 AM Saturday night/Sunday morning both radio stations lost generator power at the site and we were forced off the air. We immediately implemented our emergency plan of relocating the KAJM 104.3 frequency to Shaw Butte in the northern part of Phoenix. KAJM went on the air yesterday at 2:40 PM from the emergency site at reduced power. We are currently working to get KNRJ 101.1 on the air from the same site. We have filed an emergency antenna notice with the FCC for KAJM and will do the same for KNRJ when we are up and running notifying them of the change of location."
