Gladiators on The Fan

92.3 The Fan has snatched the Cleveland Gladiators play by play from WKNR/WWGK.

Monsters announcer Doug Plagens will double dip and serve as the new Gladiators announcer.

I think the Gladiators is a good move for The Fan. It can add more fans to both the team and station. Hopefully, they can add the Monsters to their play-by-play lineup.

Maybe, this can also lead into adding the bigger teams (Browns, Indians, Cavaliers) to their roster in the future.

Maybe 92.3 can add the Canadian curling championships and bowling for dollars to their play by play lineup as well. Arena Football? ;D Give me a break.

Doesn't Gilbert own the Gladiators? A precursor deal to signing the Cavs?

Yes he does.

And his teams are all on different stations.

Cavs on WTAM, Monsters shared by WHKW and KNR/KNR2, Gladiators on The Fan.

WKNR's rights to OSU are up after 2012, and that may be The Fan's next target (and would be their 1st real big local catch).

Indians are also up soon. Clear Channel holds them, obviously as they hold all 3 BigTime Pro teams in town. That would be the mondo catch if they can wrangle them away. Do you know how many people listen to Indians games on the radio on a weekly basis??? Its a very very big audience. I have a feeling CBS is going to make a strong play for the Tribe.

Why would you want the Indians on a short-stick FM signal?

If it were just the "short stick" signal, that would be a reasonable question, but 92.3 covers Cleveland and North Akron pretty good..and you still have the Indians radio network, plus you have other possibilities down the line..Such as a move to another frequency eventually..

92.3 covers the metro pretty well.

Remember that the Indians are on stations in Elyria, Akron, Canton, and (I think still) Painesville.

Without the Indians on WTAM, those stations are going to be thrilled, plus I wonder if the Indians can up the rates to those stations?
