Glancing At the Ratings, less people listening.

As I took a 5 minute glance bottom from top, it looks like the Ipods, XM's, and the Internets took a virtual leap in the arbitrons. Most of the ratings of stations were mainly stagnant or little change of anything.
Yes the talk and news stations and ethnic or eclectic programming held their own, but when it came to contemporary especially mainstream, the ratings look like less people are showing the little effects of the movements of the stations. Yes the ratings plagued Alice has been showing some climb especially after a few changes of staff, (and I haven't listened to them because of no need too, ) and couple of other rating plagued stations haven't dropped further because they'll fall off the list if they do, but even the younger audience that listen to KMEL/KYLD shows little response reaction to movement.
The ratings look like nobody cares.
Even the contemporary or classic hits in Sacramento all declined in the last book, because I believe listeners have other sources or access to it. I predict more talk and sports on FM.

yeah, the sf market has always seemed to be like that in the ratings that i noticed too, with this market being the electronic capital, it doesnt amaze me, lots of people have ipods and stuff

Actually, I see listening pretty stable. Compared to the same month last year, total market cume is down around 25K and the average quarter hour is only down four or five thousand. Given that ARB's population figures for the Bay Area are down as well, a similar number to the cume, I'd argue fairly stable radio listening...

Pretty stable, if ARB's flakey trends are to be believed. Trends are notoriously unstable, and are unweighted. Personally, would like to see the cell phone technology take over, (NOT ARB's people meter) that would give a better picture of what is really being heard, if not listened to...with the added bonus of GPS to tell WHERE they are hearing Station KXYZ.

Not a bad idea.....we would call it the V-Cast or EVDO report.
