Glee Cast closing in on the Holy Grail

I pretty much quit buying Billboard in 2000, and pretty much don't listen to TOP 40, or what ever it is called today CHR, whatever. Also since my music business has been pretty much dormant for that same duration, I guess I am out of touch with the current sounds. I happened to look something up in Billboard this morning, and I came across the achievement records and was astounded to see that The Glee Cast, whatever that is , is in second place with 107 chart entries to the 108 for Elvis. Can someone tell who or what the Glee cast is, and it seems to be a group effort that has closed in on the King, and it seems they are gonna blow past him. The last true stat on the charts is gonna join every other 50's/60's stat in the basement, due to the introduction of soundscan.

Glee is a weekly TV series, and the Glee cast are the high school kids who the show focuses on. The Billboard charts are done differently now, or with downloads, sales are different so that sometimes super-popular artists (often of the flavor of month variety) can have many songs in the Top 100 at the same time. Taylor Swift, I think it was, had a whole bunch of songs on one chart recently. Often, in these cases, most of the songs will log one week on the Hot 100. The Glee Cast recordings have only been around a few years.

Re: Glee Cast AT the Holy Grail

The Associated Press reports that the cast of "Glee" now has the most songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. "In just 18 months of appearing on the charts, the Fox TV series has set the record for the most songs on the Billboard chart in the chart's 52-year history. This week, "Glee" debuts six songs on the chart". That gives them a total of 113 songs, which is five more than, now second-place Elvis Presley who had 108.
The problem, as I see it, is that the comparisons don't match. Today, we don't have specific singles like we used to. Any song that gets downloaded enough is a "kind-of" single. The stupid thing is that of these 6 songs many, maybe even all of them, may be on the chart for one lone week. Elvis should still be considered #1 in the category of commercially released singles, and the Glee Cast in the category of downloaded songs.

More Importantly, Glee is a group effort. Well, it was just a thought on my part, might as well face it, my age group lost the charts a long time ago. And are losing the airwaves, as long we are being declared extinct by the experts. Funny Elvis is still the hardest working deadman in show business, or has his son-in-law surpasssed him in that respect also, C'est la vie. The King Is Dead, Long Live The King. :'(

This sounds like a case of, "If A=B & B=C then A=C. The hardest working man in show business is James Brown. James Brown is dead. The hardest working man in show business is dead.

Is this the most on the hot 100, or just the top 40? Elvis' total of 108 is for just the top 40. (My most recent Billboard book (2004) credits him with 114 titles on the top 40, versus 108 for my 1984-1985 vintage book, but that is due to some b-sides being listed separately, even the ones that didn't chart separately.)
The problem, as I see it, is that the comparisons don't match. Today, we don't have specific singles like we used to. Any song that gets downloaded enough is a "kind-of" single. Absolutely, I agree. This is an apples-to-oranges comparison.

yes, you are correct, for top 40 only (108), I was lazy and didn't go to the (bible) Whitburn, overall, top100 Elvis Had 153 as of 2002 the date of my book. He may have more beyond 2002, since he has charted at least 5 since he died. Again, your numbers may be more up to date since my book is 2002.

He now joins Elvis, Tupac and Michael and lets see who sells more records post mortem. I am guessing
1.Elvis 2.Tupac 3.Michael 4. James to date.

Michael may pass them all in my estimation??
