Glenn Beck abandons ship

I'm surprised no one else mentioned that Glenn Beck turned on the Bush Administration at 9:36 this morning, going on a rant about how "Bush recognized the threat of Radical Islam but then lead us down the wrong path in Iraq."

And then admitted that Bush had "mangled the Constitution."

I have no love for Beck and his ilk, but this was just sad on so many levels. By inaguration day I imagine Glenn will be singing the praises of democratic socialism.

Don't want to turn this into a political rant, but does the phrase "Hitler's Jews" mean anything?

On a more practical note, I never could stand anyone parading their opinion as fact, and then calling people "stupid" if they didn't agree. Both sides do this. That's why talk radio will die - and if radio station owners don't have a backup plan in place now, there may be some stations going dark in the next couple of years (or at least limping by until the mid-term elections in 2010).

I like Glenn and all but he really screwed up by junking his CNN show just weeks before the Big Election.

Here you have a conservative-based show on a left-leaning network. Now no conservative shows there.

What was the hurry? Could he have not waited a couple of weeks to announce his Fox gig? I think he could have done much better as a media watchdog calling out the dominant media for overlooking Biden and Obama's gaffes.
Instead, his show is silenced. Great going, Glenn.

I don't know if you've watched much of CNN lately, but I have been watching for a couple months now. Not that many shows..Lou Dobbs and sometimes the one after his, Campbell Brown's. They are nothing like the Larry King stuff that has tainted the network for years. Those two shows are actually pretty good and seem to deal with with actual facts without much noticeable spin. I also thought CNN did a surprisingly good job with election night coverage, i.e., large readable graphics and having everyone in the same room with one host, Wolfie.

It's funny because I started watching CNN just because of Beck.

I still think Dobb's overdoes his immigration rant, but he's on top of the Wall Street bail-outs.

I heard Beck say the other morning that he is completely smitten with Roger Ayles at Fox.

Good points. I didn't mean to dissmiss CNN, which I do watch regularly, but am watching FOX more and MSNBC a lot less.

CNN does a good job with the nuts-and-bolts news reportage.

I just thought Glenn added a more (and needed) conservative element to it. It's a shame he had to blow off that network shortly before the critical election and have his voice relegated to the much smaller talk radio audience.

Beck is on Headline News, hardly a left-leaning network. Nancy "I Know What You Did Last Summer" Grace is still there, and she's no liberal. Beck's ratings sucked on HN, and the fact that he's certifiable probably had a lot to do with that. He aims for a populist "non-aligned" political stance, but usually just carries water for the conservatives. Considering how lousy his ratings have been, and the fact he's lost on the Eye Candy Headline "News" network, why be surprised he jumped to Fox. He can be the next John Gibson - an early evening show for him to rant and scream and preach to the converted.

CNN is not liberal either. Lou Dobbs has stopped ranting as much about illegal Mexicans, but is now convinced the "liberal media" is covering up the bailout and everything else. He occasionally throws a bone to liberal causes like corruption, but he's not left-of-center by any means. Larry King sucks up to everyone, and the rest of CNN is really concern trolling and hand wringing by reporters who are easily sucked into talking point narratives and memes when a news vacuum exists and then they run with it.

When did Fox Opinion Channel start reporting news? The only News I watch is local and News Hour.

"I heard" that due to a recent Court Order, whenever Fox News' content is considered to contain a biased slant they are required to spin their logo in the lower left hand corner of the screen.

Glenn Beck has made it clear he is a conservative and not a Republican. It's a mistake to assume conservatives are monolithic on everything. Beck will do well on FNC and I wish him all the best.

Do you think Beck will fit into the 'stable of Fox Stars' like the others seem to? The other hosts seem very chummy with each other (lots of chit chat and banter) and appearing on each others programs.

I just don't see Beck doing that with the top dogs at that network (Hannity, O'Reilly, etc)...but Glenn has fooled me before. Thankfully he never 'ran' his TV show like he does his radio show, which I think is a manic mess.
