Glenn Beck Back On New York Radio?

radioguy39nj said:
IMHO, CC isn't ready to push Rush Radio in NY or Philly because of what happened in Boston. :)

They are not doing it in those markets because they don't need to.

They would be competing against themselves for suburban market share in New Jersey and signal.

"The speculation is likely due to his Foxnews contract ending at the end of the year and has nothing to do with ratings."

Fox is letting Beck get away--in fact, maybe even encouraging him out the door--partly because ratings have slid, but maybe even more because he's a tough sell. Advertisers are increasingly reluctant to buy time with him, and that, according to both the Times and the Daily News, is why he's out at WOR, WDRC and WPHT, and why Roger Ailes at Fox is happy to see him go.

This is a business, and if a show doesn't do the business it won't stay on the air.

I guess all the gold in the world (i.e. Goldline) won't give you peace of mind, after all. ::)

You are all missing the point. There is no reason to put these d-bags on FM. The lemings that listen to their drivel, and hinge on their every word, will put up with the crappy signals, just so they can feel validated for being racists and imbeciles. This is why liberal talk stations don't work. Liberals are educated, intelligent, free thinkers, who don't need someone telling them how to think or feel.

Yeah...... Thats how NPR, NYT, ABC,CBS, NBC, Wash Post, LA Times are in business, by catering to the right wing racists how they should think or feel.

Well you only mentioned one that actually does radio talk shows. Most public radio stations offer entertainment, and occasional talk. and ABC?
How'd that make the list? The rest are all fine institutions of media, who tend to tell the truth (or at least the story) instead of repeating the same old tired sound bytes.

Liberals do, of course, need a dose of common sense...
...but then, they would not be...liberal!

Almost all NPR affiliates - even rural mostly-classical stations - have to carry Morning Edition and All Things Considered, and even Marketplace or Fresh Air. That's somewhere between six to eight hours of spoken word programming per day, and that's hardly 'occasional.' If you're a NPR talk station, there's hardly any local talk content (maybe somewhere between two to three hours), as all those aforementioned national shows must air, in addition to other stuff like Diana Rehm and "Talk of the Town." Some stations may even relay the BBC World Service for the entire overnight period.

Former parent company of WABC Radio, I guess. :p

Oy.

All of the aforementioned "fine institutions of media" ceased to practice actual journalism in 2008 - I won't even bother explaining why on here, it's not necessary. These networks or outlets now blatantly exact an agenda or ideological viewpoint, give or take the occasional token conservative or RINO in the editorial boards or as on-air commentators (i.e., Pat Buchanan with MSNBC, Larry Kudlow with CNBC, and alleged RINO David Brooks with the NYT). Yes, some reporters are still damn good: on the radio dial, ABC Radio's Ann Compton and Doug Limerick, CBS Radio's Mark Knoller, Fox Radio's Bill Vitka and AP Radio's Jon Belmont immediately come to mind.

But as a result of this wholesale failure for the media to do their jobs, Fox is the only one that has even tried to be honest with their audience. Yeah, they have a conservative viewpoint. And? What else is new? People watch Fox handily over all of their cable brethren and do adequately against the broadcast TV realm. So? The objective now is to insult the viewers and discredit the network? That's been going on for years. Yawn.

Most of the remaining audiences for CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN and MSNBC now are otherwise reflecting the ideological slant set forth by those news departments. Which is fine and dandy, but it ain't objective. And it certainly isn't "telling the truth."

Face it, if they really wanted to implement "Rush Radio" in a big way, you'd see stations on FM's in New York, Philadelphia and Boston with it by now.

As it stands, it's on a handful of markets like Raleigh and Greensboro, and doing so-so in those markets.
It's done well in New Orleans. And the same template was executed in Pittsburgh on WPGB-FM, albeit without the Rush Radio name.

The "Rush Radio" format template just is not suited for major market radio. It's perfect in the Deep South, however. Those two stations in Raleigh and Greensboro are upstarts that poached Rush and other Premiere shows from the established talk stations in town.

And again, because it's on FM, they have a better shot at success.

The AM performance in Boston might have been a wake-up call for them, though.

Face it, and people felt this way from the beginning, WXKS/1200 was not going to overtake any of the established competition in Boston. Plus what would be a suitable brand for the station? WXKS is associated with KISS-FM that "1200 WXKS" would not work. Neither would "1200 WKOX."

The only station I think of that could use a "name" brand for a talk format in Boston is "Howie FM/Howie AM" for whatever station nabs that star away from WRKO... ::)

Well, I guess New York City officially won't have Glenn Beck to kick around anymore - physically, anyways: He's putting his Connecticut home up for sale. This had to be somewhat expected after the impending cancellation of his Fox News Channel program.

I wouldn't equate Glenn's ending of the show with his selling his Ct. home.

If he was smart, he'd move back to Florida. We have a nice little airport here in Sa-ra-so-ta! where he could park his plane. :D
