Glenn Beck Dumped by 55KRC

Suddenly it's the Tony Snow show from 9am to noon. They'd been running Glenn Beck since late 2001.

This has apparently happened in a number of cities. What happened to Beck? I did used to listen to him here, and thought he had a good mixture of serious and fun stuff. I guess I tapered off listening about a year ago, thinking he'd gotten a little too full of himself and kinda preachy.

Thoughts? I suppose it's possible that KRC picked up Snow as part of Clear Channel's ever-closer relationship with Fox News, which syndicates Snow.

Rick Bird has a write-up:

<a target="_blank" href=http://news.cincypost.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060110/LIFE/601100333/1005>'Tony Snow Show' to air here</a>

Also, this was in the Washington Post:

<a target="_blank" href=http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/01/10/AR2006011000921_pf.html>Verbal Assault Over Cincinnati Airwaves</a>

Well not all the CC stations are doing this. WTVN in Columbus is still airing Glenn Beck (which you can get in Cincinnati no problem) but only till 11:42a when they air Paul Harvey. WTVN did add Sean Hannity 9p till Midnight, who is on Fox News, but is syndicated through ABC radio.

We made the decision to drop Glenn Beck early last year in favor of Jerry Springer on our NewsRadio 1450 WSRQ here in Sarasota Fl. Part of the decision had to do with Beck's low ratings. The other had to do with the fact that Jerry Springer lives p/t here in Sarasota.

AFAIK he does well on WIOD (as well as any English talk show can do in Miami-FtL) and WJNO... I don't get the Springer thing. Don't see what him living in Sarasota for what, 19 days a year, matters. No offense, just don't.

If KRC picked up Laura Ingraham, I could understand it. But Tony Snow is godawful, the worst of the worst. How any station puts this rubbish on is beyond me. That annoying Fox VO guy... "call Tony now!"... ugh. Whenever I was in the home or office and didn't feel like lugging my XM in, I'd stream Beck on WTVN or WKRC; KRC, with its weak news reports, annoying CC Cincy cluster Argosy Casino overpromotion, and bland imaging never really excited me. Sorry, but I don't see how Snow, Cramer, and Ramsey can attract the large audience KRC needs.

Nevertheless, seems Beck's one-time domination of middays on Ohio newstalkers is eroding, with Columbus being the only top-50 market with full coverage of his show (not counting WEOL in Lorain County being part of Cleveland or WHLO's penetration of southern metro Cleveland).

The answer to WCIN's money woes: clear Beck and Ingraham and broker the rest. Those Roex folks have some extra money to spend this year...

Maybe WPFB could look at picking up Beck?<P ID="signature">______________

The station flipping religious that Laura Ingraham is getting bumped off.

When is that going to happen? I've not heard anything except for a rumor that they could flip back to sports talk.

Forget the exact details, but the transaction looked like this. Buyer specializes in religious formats like Salem, but not the others like talk, sports, or music.

WBOB(AM) Florence (Cincinnati), Ky.; WTSJ(AM) Cincinnati
PRICE: Swap
BUYER: Christian Broadcasting System Ltd (Jonathon R. Yinger, president/director); owns three other stations, none in this market
SELLER: Salem Communications Corp. (Edward G. Atsinger III, president/CEO)
FACILITIES: WBOB(AM): 1160 kHz, 5 kW day/990 W night; WTSJ(AM): 1050 kHz, 1 kW day/279 W night
FORMAT: WBOB(AM): News/Talk; WTSJ(AM): Christian/Talk
BROKER: John Pierce of John Pierce and Co. LLC
COMMENT: Salem is exchanging WBOB(AM) and WTSJ(AM) plus $6.75 million cash for Christian Broadcasting System's WLQV(AM) Detroit. Total value exceeds $14 million.

Not set in stone though that it will go religious. They could LMA it. If it does happen it'll be a format with no ratings you can bet on it.

You are correct. But you can also likely bet that LMAed or not, no one besides Salem has an interest in that weak news-talk format that doesn't make dollar one until Saturday morning.

Wait... it's a Salem station. I thought there'd be only one syndicator to call. :)
