Global National coming to NTV

NTV in Newfoundland and Labrador, a province without its own Global station, will begin airing Global National next week. This is according to Global National's Facebook page.

I wonder if NTV is going to keep airing CTV's national news. If so, that would likely make NTV the first Canadian station to broadcast network newscasts from more than one network, and perhaps even in North America. The only other stations that may have done so in the past were CFQC Saskatoon and CHEK Victoria, which were dual CBC/CTV affiliates at one time - but that was before CBC moved The National to 10 PM, so it is unlikely. I also can't think of any situations where American stations aired newscasts from more than one network, although I may be wrong.

CJBN in Kenora, Ontario also airs both Global and CTV newscasts.

Also, a few American stations have aired national news from more than one network through the late-1970s, on stations affiliated with more than one network -- one such example was KTRE in Lufkin, Texas, which aired both ABC and NBC's evening newscasts in the 1970s.

IIRC, CHFD/4 in Thunder Bay carried a local half hour of news at 5:00pm (strictly Voice over tape, no on-camera talent), followed by the first 30 minutes of Global/CIII's 5:30pm newscast. The station went into alternate programming at 6pm, when CKPR/2 aired the Thunder Bay News Hour.

Sure enough, the schedule on NTV's website indicates they are airing both Global National and CTV National News. The schedule also indicates NTV will not be airing Global National on weekends.

ODD enough, Rogers cable Toronto is terminating CJON (NTV) from their channel line up as of August 25th. I think this is discusting! Sorry to hear I'm the only one.

Too bad they're not a public television station that depends on Toronto Rogers subscribers for support. Practically, the only thing NTV has going for them off The Rock is Geoff Stirling and is quirky late-night programming. (Does he still do that late-night business?)

I've managed to run into a few people upset they will now actually have to watch more commercials rather than see music video fillers durring many tv programs, and a few others that apreciated having news and weather updates for Newfoundland.
Some people here do have family there, and apreciate being informed.
