Global National to Launch Mandarin Edition

Global is joining forces with corporate sibling Shaw Cable to launch a Mandarin version of Global National:

http://www.viewers.ca/discuss/showthread.php?t=14721

The newscast will air on Shaw Cable's multicultural channels in Calgary and Vancouver, starting Jan 23rd.

In other Global-related news...the Viewers.ca boards are reporting that CJBN Kenora has dropped CTV programming, and is basically operating as a semi-satellite of Global's Winnipeg station CKND.

Rogers should seriously consider restoring CityNews international (english edition), offering that in various languages as well.

There's a change brought forward by the CRTC that would fit this sort of programming well.

----> " OMNI – Licence renewals – Correction "

The licensee shall devote to the broadcast of ethnic programs not less than 80% of the total number of hours broadcast between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., during each broadcast year.

Looking at CJBN's schedule, it looks like they are running the entire CKND schedule except for a couple local shows on weekends.

That means that CITL Lloydminster is now the only independently-owned CTV affiliate.
