Globe: Dyett, WBZ discussing return to the airwaves

But it'll have its limits, I'm afraid, in that it'll work for Lovell but not for bringing Steve LeVeille (or, at the very least, a live and local overnight show) back. I can't imagine that it cost 'BZ all that much for Lovell's services on Saturday evening. This will be CBS' "concession" to the clamor of those angered by 'BZ dropping so much local programming, while buying themselves a little goodwill from the African-American community.

Being 'allowed back' in the face of a whole bunch of people who weren't could create a negative backlash for Lovell. Could he walk through that building without staring at the floor?

Well, I guess that clinches it: Street activism does work.

Clear Channel was forced to reinstate Thom HartmannThom Hartmann's show on WXXM-FM in Madison, WI as a result of public outcry. In fact, they earlier tried to flip from progressive talk to sports, but the reaction to such a proposed move proved insuperable. (It even inspired the great Stephanie Miller to come to Madison...Boston wasn't so fortunate..

The beauty of working Saturday nights is that you never interact with most of the rest of the staff. I think I met Lovell once, maybe twice, in the five years I toiled on Soldiers Field Road.

And honestly, I think anyone who's left there would take any good news they can get, very much including Dyett's return.

Of the air staffers that got let go, he was by far the weakest. Of course, we all know why he was "invited" back and the others weren't.

I would disagree. Lovell may have lost a bit of his fastball, but I still found his show engaging and a pleasure to listen to. The weakest host on WBZ, in my opinion, is the one who was spared during the cuts and is now simulcast on WCCO. While I've never met Jordan Rich, he seems like a wonderful, caring, truly nice guy. . .who is interminably boring. I would take Steve, Lovell, or even Pat over Jordan any time.

Anytime I caught his show he always sounded like he had walked in the studio without having done any show prep and was just winging it.

They will have to find another slot. Do they tape-delay Komando after Bruin Sat. evening games?
Lovell trying to explain why he's back without mentioning what else is going on should be...interesting.
