Globe: Fans say WILD sound should not be silenced

http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2006/10/10/fans_say_wild_sound_should_not_be_silenced/

Will the letter-writing campaign succeed, or are they better off trying to get someone to either change their
format OR buy a station themselves?

"About 200 people gathered yesterday at City Hall to say goodbye to the radio station known as ``the drum" of Boston's black community, while fans and the station's workers ratcheted up a letter-writing campaign designed to persuade the federal government to save the station's identity."

it worked for Gene Rodenberry. Some claim he orchestrated the whole thing to get into syndication.

Maybe if they convince enough people there's a demand for R&B/black programming, a station could change its format (in which case, contact the radio ownership groups, not the FCC) or if they pool their money they can buy a station.

Like I said in my sig , Radio One sold out the Peolpe of Boston . 25 years of dropping s--t on Urban America ! I hope Entercom will do the right thing , and put on a Urban A/C station on 97.7 , something like there sister station 97.1 in Greensboro N.C.

I was there yesterday, at City Hall plaza. The crowd was more like 30 to 40 people, maximum...
Again, this has nothing to do with the "right" thing or "wrong" thing. Radio One made a calculated business move.
They made a handsome profit for their efforts, to be used to fund their other activities, as THEY see fit. If a rally with a "group hug" makes the participants feel better, great. But it will not change anything. New owners will program what THEY see fit. If somebody who owns a license decides that they can make a profit, they will adopt an urban format - for purely business/commercial reasons. Stations change formats all of the time. Deal with it...

How long do you stay ? Was you there at the begining of the rally, or at the end of the rally ? I once went to a Red Sox Game , and I was told , the game was sold out , but I saw alot of empty seats , but I was kick out at the begining of the game .

all they have to do to save WILD is go to some supporters and raise about 35 million dollars in cash.

They are all big name radio people right so I'm sure raising that amount of money won't be an issue.

Or maybe they can buy those 2 AM's that the "Radio God" swore up and down were for sale last month.

It's a done deal, get over it! Or start getting the resources to buy WILD AM from Radio One, or LMA the station from them.

I was there for a while, left for a while to hang out in the North End, then came back for a while. At no time were there 200 people there. Inflating the numbers makes for better press, but it doesn't change the facts.
Just like saying a station is for sale does not make it a fact. Time to join the real world - and I don't mean the MTV variety. Save up your pennies and buy a station of your own. Program it however you like. Try to make a living doing it. Best of luck to you. Those who can do, DO. Those who cannot or will not, invent conspiracy theories and whine. Deal with it...

Rapking's statement is the closest to possibilty. Entercom could consider it,but the inside is that another media group had it on the agenda for a recent conference call.

Why did these fools have a rally at City Hall? What does Mayor Menino have to do with the sale of WILD-FM? Nothing. You gangsta rap lovers/thug life supporters should be rallying in front of Entercom's Corporate Stiff Neck Headquarters. Stop pestering local government with such a silly rally. It would make sense if the station's sale had anything to do with the local government. The City of Boston had nothing to do with the station's sale and format change. The local government is not involved at all...they're not out to screw over the Black Man and all this other such crap. Get over it. Move on with your life. These WILD-FM posts are getting just as annoying as Julius May's worthless ramblings on the Philadelphia board.

Did anyone at the rally hold black-owned Radio One responsible for not only pulling the format, but selling the station? And NOT to another black-owned group?

Look, Radio One made a smart business move. They made a ton of money on the sale. But, if this is such a "black" issue, how '*** THEY seem to get a free pass?

WILD-FM was mostly a R&B station ( WILD-FM only played Rap Music from 6pm until 10 pm ).

Radio One did not get a free pass . Alot of former WILD-FM listeners are bashing "Uncle Radio One" company ( read my sig ).Alot of former WILD-FM listeners are now boycotting T.V. One channel .

Yeah, sure. Because Radio One made a business decision to sell the station to someone else (read: "whitey"), they're now "Uncle Toms." A cheap shot if I ever heard one. Does it really make you feel better to call someone a racist? If that's the only argument you have, you didn't have a very good one to begin with.

Do yourself and the rest of us a favor: Get off this horse and move on. Stop exploiting your perceptions of racism and making them into societal divisions. If you truly believe, as you should, that there is still too much racism in society, stop being part of the problem. Don't keep whining on a message board about a business deal. Figure out what needs to be done to fix it, and then get it done. Whining accomplishes nothing.

I made a similar post to the one above this one...and it was deleted. The rules were not broken in the post in question.
