Globe: Planet Mikey; also, VB

Globe article on the rise and fall and rise again of Mike Adams, WEEI's Planet Mikey.http://www.boston.com/news/globe/living/articles/2006/05/30/radio_chaos/"‘‘I told Mike, for years, ‘If you had even a modicum of discipline you could be a national figure,’.’’ remembers Kravetz. ‘‘If you’ve read anything about Letterman, you know he’s obsessive; everything is planned. Mike would walk in front of the camera at one minute to 11 and kind of wing it for an hour. A lot of it was absolutely hilarious, some sophomoric, but at the end of the day, it lacked the kind of structure that would take him to the next level.’’"Also: Herald's Inside Track says that the contracts for several Ch 25 news employees, including the morning team, run out in August...among them VB (Doug Goudie). Am pretty sure they'd re-sign him but if not, I couldeasily see him coming back to 'RKO (mornings? Howie sidekick? evenings when Sox aren't on come next yr?)

I don't normally watch FMN, but when I do, VB does a good job. I've never heard anything about his popularity on the show, though, so who knows? He would be great back on WRKO.

High-jacking the radio station? What is this, 1962? "Planet Mikey" is what's wrong with radio today. At least when Duane Glasscock did that kind of thing he was a jokeing, as in; what kind of a jackass would do something like this? Hard to believe Adams does not show-prep... Wait a second. No it isn't.

also, VB

VB's support of the Iraq war was so strong on WRKO that it might come back to haunt him at renewal time.He was absolutely gleeful with the bombs dropping. Now that people are a bit more sobered by thehorrible war, RKO might be the only refuge for someone so right wing it feels forced. Anyone believethat VB is a closet progressive "playing the game" (Conservative Talk) because it was in vogue? If nothingelse Doug Goudie seems like someone who doesn't question authority - they tell him to jump, he says "Is this high enough?"

VB's lost some weight...I can't really compare him with ESPN's John Kruk anymore.I heard the "hijacking" stunt and could tell it was a stunt but it was kind of fun to hear listener reaction.Yeah, VB did sound gleeful as bombs were dropping. As for conservative reaction to the war & Bush, etc.,we feel kind of let down re: the whole immigration deal but many of us still support the war effort--and many of us are now admitting we pretty muchvoted for the lesser of two evils, or evil of two lessers (we need a third party that's more moderate butit's tough to battle against the two established parties--tell that to Mr. Mihos, though...the far left that controls the Dem. party and the far right that control the Rep. party won't have it--it'sodd that party faithful taking part in the primaries pick the candidates but more moderate voters are kinda left out...I digress). Maybe if VB got back on the radio airwaves he may have an attitude of either "OK, things are taking a turn for theworse, and we didn't expect it" or "well, nobody said this would be an overnight success">>that VB is a closet progressiveWho knows! Some feel that on the other side, Ed Schulz is more conservative than one would think but he kind of swerved left...

It still amazes me, Raccoon, that you people can't admit:a)That WBUR has huge ratings overshadowing your fave Howie Carrb)That the war effort hurt America's credibility when the world was with us against the terroristsc)That you made a mistake. That Al Gore and John Kerry were the right men for the job.Certainly better than a man who has Abramoff all over his office and won't fess up.You people amaze me. The poll #s are in the garbage pail and you - like the abused wife who won'tadmit - can't admit - she married a drunk - besmirch good men with this "lesser of two evils" crap.Admit you made a huge error. The new Rolling Stone, online today, on the stands Friday, has a hugestory - ten pages - on the theft of the 2004 election. Thieves are not the lesser of two evils - theyare the evil.

(Hey, I played the first 4 songs of the Paul Hultman CD when filling in for Doug last Sunday. I can't be all bad! :) >>John Kerry "I'm fascinated by rap...Can I get me a huntin' license here?...I actually voted for the $87 million, before I voted against it." John Kerry, my favorite comedian. Run again, Lurch, PLEASE...Al Gore is funny too. "HE BETRAYED THIS COUNTRY! HE PLAYED ON OUR FEARS!"And soon we may have the lovely voice of Hillary ("I AM SICK AND TIRED OF...") in the White House.Pinch me.What are the actual 3-6 pm ratings for 'BUR vs. Howie? How well does "Stale Air With Terry Gross Me Out",as Ingraham calls it, do vs. Howie?I think I made a mistake w/ Bush re: immigration, but I still support the war on terror. Or maybe I don't.No wait, I do...but on the other hand. Sorry. Just channelling John Kerry there for a moment :)>>the theft of the 2004 election.I demand a recount of the past few Mass. elections. It's a conspiracy--Democrat after Democrat gettingelected. The voting machines are rigged. Both senators, all 10 reps, of the same party. Billy and Whiteyare behind all this, I tell you.>>ike the abused wife who won'tadmit - can't admit - she married a drunk C'mon now, that's no way to talk about Ted Kennedy... ;D

>>Thieves are not the lesser of two evils - theyare the evil.meanwhile there's a book called Donkey Cons all about crime, corruption, and sex in the Democratic party.Politicians of both parties can be crooks, liars, etc, it's a matter of voting for "the lesser of the two evils".That's why I am (to borrow a nickname from DePetro) an "independent, man..."

no prob! Yeah, Doug took the week off so I came in--first half of show was re-airing of my fill in from Oct 30(including Alan Goodrich interview and live music) then I did live stuff the last half, heavy on the blues.

I don't believe that's the closet he's in.
