Globe sports media coverage????

I just got done reading Dan Shaughnessy,He said good-bye to some people who are leaving the Globe and a Billy Griffith was one of them,is this the same person who does their radio and TV coverage?
Any replacement named?or will they go without like the Herald?

It's him: NYT Corp.is offering buyouts. I think they will continue what Jack Craig started in the 70's, perhaps the country's first sports media column.

Turn The Tables ??

Perhaps, WEEI should turn the tables on The Boston Globe and Herald and have a broadcast segment rating the newpapers coverage of sports. They do it as part of some of the talk shows but they should consider a separate program or segment which just focuses on newspaper coverage of sports. The papers have taken it upon themselves for years to review radio/tv and most times poorly. Turn the tables and rate them.

I'm disgusted with the way The Globe and WEEI push fan favorites around.
Check out Joseph P. Kahn's (any relation to Julie?) story in the Globe today speaking for all fans in regards to Manny Ramirez. The Globe, with its 17% ownership, appears to be helping to cut the Manny payroll at the expense of the fans. Keep Globe writers separate from Sports Radio - they have a vested interest.

"a transcendent if enigmatic ballplayer whose quirks have both captivated and frustrated Sox fans during the past five years, "

Most fans are delighted with Manny - it is the Globe and EEI
who push a great player out the door, forcing Bob Lobel to say
"Why can't we get players like that?"

Because, Bob, your colleagues appear to do the bidding of ownership. We've seen it in Boston radio - ya think it doesn't happen in Boston sports as well?

I doubt 'EEI is going to do anything like that anytime soon. Most of their program anchors are skin-deep with their knowledge of the Boston professional sports scene and they need the beat writers from the Herald to make themselves look like they know what the hell they are talking about. The print guys love it because they get some decent cake (around $500 per appearance) and it helps with other areas, such as appearances on local, regional and national cable programming.

WEEI had best be careful in the upcoming year. They are entering the last year of their contract for broadcasting Red Sox games. To lose them to another Boston station would be close to a death knell to their reign as the "#1 Sports Station In The Country". ESPN Radio is finally in this town and, their transmitting issues aside (spotty signal--which I believe will be resolved), would LOVE to snag the 'Sox and with their strong national programming would bury the likes of D&C and the Big O.
______________

Dream on: ESPN will never bury the BigO, or D&C even if the Red Sox were to move. The Herald writers are irrelevant and EEI anchors know the Red Sox and Pats and that's all you need in this town. Glen saw through Pitino as soon as he got off the plane from Lexington:nobody else did.
