Globe: What does it take to get you fired on Boston radio?

http://www.boston.com/news/local/ma...oston-radio/TXCmnJn4ElCxliVkKJ4kXK/story.html

Minihane's comments about a Fox Sports reporter will not get him suspended or fired. Meanwhile...

O&A said Menino was killed in a car crash. They were fired, then rewarded with a job in NYC.
Severin fired >>when he bragged about sleeping with his interns.

John DePetro--for comments about Matt Amorello (Globe doesn't mention) and Grace Ross.

Howie: suspended for dissing Entercom
etc

As she puts it:
>but not before the whole brouhaha had some wondering whether it was all a desperate bid to boost ratings.
If it was, it backfired, bigtime.

Herald (Inside Track I think) had just mentioned that both sports stations were suffering with a lackluster Red Sox
team this year.

>>“This is WEEI trying to get ratings by creating controversy and pandering to the lowest form of sexist stereotypes,” said veteran radio consultant Donna Halper.

I went to Donna's talk in Quincy on Monday and asked why neither station seems to have a female host. She mentioned good question and brought up the WEEI host, Janet Prensky, who left after 'the boys' at the station made working there
tough for her.

>>My bet is Minihane knuckled under to complaints from the advertisers who pay ’EEI’s bills.

That could have also been part of the reason why Ent. got rid of John Depetro some years back. His ratings weren't all that good, also, but his calling Matt Amorello a derogatory term for a homosexual, and the way he called Grace Ross a "fat lesbian" could have offended advertisers.

From Radio Ink:

Remember when former Miami sports talker Dan Sileo (now working in San Diego) got in trouble for targeting Erin Andrews on Twitter? She was the subject of some not-so-flattering chatter again yesterday, this time from Kirk Minihane on WEEI Boston's Dennis and Callahan show. During the All-Star Game there was a controversy as to whether pitcher Adam Wainwright threw a meatball to Derek Jeter, who hit a double. The Fox TV reporter interviewed Wainwright about the pitch and Minihane didn't like her line of questioning. He said she was a gutless b*&^$, he hated her, and she should drop dead. Listen to his rant HERE. If you were the GM at WEEI-FM, what would you do?

So what who cares

Minihane was motivated to say what he did because Andrews tried to let Wainright off the hook. Did he groove his pitches to Jeter or not (in the all-star game). Was it too much to ask of Erin to follow up with pertinent questions?
