GMA should change its name

ABC's Good Morning America should be renamed...
"Enterainment This Morning!"
GMA reminds me of a 2 hour version of Enterainment Tonight

So does the Today Show. The only good one is CBS

Actually when I've discussed GMA on twitter, its been in recent weeks with the hashtag #TMAonGMA (a play on the ESPNonABC outsourcing).

But even GMA's graphics scream "tabloid". The Today Show has retained a more distinguished set of graphics.

I must agree that CBS This Morning is the only serious news choice in the mornings, until we see Gayle at 8an! :D

Have you watched Nightline lately? I think that show is still under the control of ABC News, and yet it looks like Inside Edition.

Good Morning America was always an entertainment show, run by the entertainment division.

We're talking about a show that began its existence with a monkey as its co-host, people.

Agreed - Nightline is a much degraded product. Ted Koppel would be spinning in his grave. If he were dead, that is. ;D

I agree about GMA looking tabloid. Its most informative from 7-7:30 when George and Robin are on duty. By 7:30, it becomes commentary and opinion leaning tabloid with argumentative guest hosts like Nancy Grace. By 8, it's celeb pop news talk.

Itd be better if it informative to atleast 8 and pop stuff not starting until 8:30

I'm sure their argument in favour of celeb gossip is that "we're targeting women". I would find that to be patronizing and degrading to women; many women want real news too.

I don't mind so much how Televisa in Mexico does it - real news from 6-9, and then Hoy (Today) from 9-12.

Well, I'm guessing that GMA might change its name to "The Brew" which really does rhyme with "The View" & The cooking show, "The Chew".

And considering what GMA tries to pass off for news the show should be renamed "P U".

True also 20/20 and World News used to get respect back in the 1980's and 1990's.
Nightline was originally designed to be the late night edition of World news.

Have you Seen World News Recently its more of todays CNN and HLN condensed to 22 and 23 minutes of news content. Remember in June somebody mentioned that ABC/Cumulus radio said that WABC-AM broke news of Lohan in the New York Boards while the other Cumulus stations like KGO-AM and WYAY-FM aired the Congress/President Obama Immigration Policy on that day. Maybe ABC has evidence that the majority who watch GMA or other ABC News content spend time on TMZ and HLN.

Actually, if my memory serves, the origin of Nightline was as the nightly 11:30 PM review of the Iran Hostage crisis which began during the last months of the Carter Administration in 1980. It wasn't even called Nightline initially, but Iran Crisis: America Held Hostage. I guess it got respectable ratings, because after the hostage crisis was over (first months of the Reagan Administration in 1981), ABC decided to keep the program going.

Though it was clearly a hard news show, it was not really meant to be a copy of World News Tonight (what it was called then). For one thing, there was a much greater emphasis on interviews with the news-makers, defintely one of Ted Koppel's strengths as a journalist.

Yes, it was Iran Crisis: America Held Hostage Day (insert the number of days ,it was changed daily)
An actual authentic news program.

I can't even stomach to watch ABC World News, any longer.

After the Iran crisis, Nightline became a real news program, focusing on exactly one topic most nights. In fact, some local stations copied the format. KING 5 in Seattle had "Top Story" at 6:30pm, which spent most of its 30 minutes on the top Seattle story of the day.

Revised. Actually by 7:14 or 7:15am, it changes focus. Today, GMA segued to a consumer watch segment. It was counterfeit manolo blahniks and they showed clips from 'Sex And the City', which ended about 10 years ago, but then they tied it back to news with counterfeit items costing US jobs. They do find more sensational stories in general over CBS, which is news, but sometimes not interesting. Yesterday, GMA went to coverage of Robert Pattinson/Kristin Stewart at around 7:14am.

I do find CBS This Morning to be more news focused even well past 7:30 and 8, but it can become a snooze fest later with some of their entertainment segments not very interesting. GMA is too far on the other end, at times too perky, and tabloidish as others have mentioned.

While around the same time, Walter Cronkite on CBS used to discuss the news with a puppet!

Good Morning America was always an entertainment show, run by the entertainment division.

When GMA premiered in September 1975, it was produced by ABC's entertainment division, except for the newsbreaks at the top and botttom of each hour, which came from ABC News.

The News department took over GMA sometime back in the 1990's or so.
