GMAZ Saturday 8/2/14

Two things about this edition of 3TV Good Morning Arizona.

1: Jared Dillingham subbed for Ryan O'Donnell. I've always thought that Jared was a good reporter and seems to be all around looking for news. However, he needs a LOT of work sitting at the anchor desk. Misspoke a couple of times. Several transitions were clunky. Discussed new movie "Guardians of the Universe." I'm sure he'll get better in time and with practice. Ironically, anytime there's a solo anchor on GMAZ weekends, I wonder 'why don't they bring in a reporter like Dillingham to help out.'

2. Announced that GMAZ weekend will be starting at 6:00 AM and end normal time of 10:00. I'm surprised it took this long for it to expand another hour. The 4 other local channels are showing either local or national news. Still, ABC15 is unchallenged by having local news starting at 5:00 AM.

@brian4, thanks for the update!

I caught Jared Dillingham and thought he was pretty good -- given that he was probably rusty at the anchor desk. For example, when Kim's mic wasn't on and he started laughing, it was a bit awkward. But, overall, I thought he did a decent job. Another factor was that Jared worked yesterday on the early evening newscasts and had a short night of sleep (and was leaving on vacation today). Honestly, I'm not much of a Ryan O'Donnell fan -- so I was happy to see someone else there.

I also caught part of the 8am hour of ABC15's news. They had the new guy, Nick Ciletti (sp?) with Allison Rodriguez. My initial impression of Nick is that he is also not an experienced anchor and did just slightly better than Jared. I turned back and listened to GMAZ.

Good to hear that GMAZ is expanding, finally! I bet they were waiting to see what the new management said (interestingly co-owned CBS5 doesn't have a weekend morning newscast). I see no need to start at 5am on the weekends (miniscule audience), but 6am makes alot of sense. I hope that they also add a dedicated reporter to cover news as well as weekend events. Sometimes, it appears that Kim is stretched pretty thin.
