GMAZ Traffic Sub

Today (4/27/15) on 3TV Good Morning Arizona, traffic reporter Gina Maravilla was off. Heidi Goitia substituted.

As mentioned in another post, GMAZ normally did not have a substitute, leaving the anchors to give a brief overview of traffic without a lot of details. This was a good use of Heidi and kept up the standard of traffic reporting.
 
Well, I must say that this is a very positive move. Thumbs up to Meredith management for realizing that they need a sub for Gina when she is off (and it's not a holiday). So far, I'm impressed with the way Meredith is handling the management of 3 and 5. The cross-utilization of reporters means that they can cover more stories. I've been surprised that they haven't cut any newscasts, even after moving some reporters and anchors around.
 
On the May 5th edition of GMAZ, Gina was off and no dedicated traffic reporter. Possibly because Gina called in sick without much notice. However I still believe they should've pulled a reporter out of the field to do full time traffic.
 
Heidi Goitia did the traffic today. So, Gina must have called in sick at the last minute yesterday. I'm surprised that Chelsea Davis couldn't do double-duty after 7am and have a 3TV reporter do traffic before 7am.
 
After many years in the Phoenix area, I moved to San Diego last year. It was a little strange to watch the San Diego morning shows and most of them have the weather personality also handle the traffic. The ABC station (which is a sister station to ABC15/Scripps) has one in studio reporter who does not only the traffic but also is at the "breaking news center". We have only one helicopter in the air (all stations receive the video feeds from it) but only the CBS station (who operates the chopper) has an in the air reporter for traffic and news coverage.
