Go ahead, admit it!

Have you ever as a listener:
(1)Called a talk show? I called Sherm Strickhauser once.
(2)Called a request line? Never
(3)Entered a radio contest? Never
(4)Showed up at a remote because the station was there rather than by accident? I went to Ann & Hope in Cumberland once during a WGNG remote just to check out the setup. Got a WZLX key chain at the Tweeter Center but I was there anyway.
(5)Voiced a complaint about a station either casually to a jock on the phone or formally to someone in charge? Never as a listener. As an employee, that's another matter.
(6)Mentioned to a sponsor that you heard their ad on a station? Never

How about as a radio person?
(1)Received gifts from listeners? Yes but I usually ate or drank them all within an hour.
(2)Gotten blatant sexual offers on the phone? Yes but I always looked at listeners like this as really unfortunate people.
(3)Just showed up at a station with an aircheck hoping for an interview? Yes at a time when you could do that & actually get a few minutes with the PD.
(4) Secretly hoped the station you worked at did poorly just so they would change format? Hehehehe-the dark side takes over.

Have you ever as a listener:

(1)Called a talk show?
> Yes many times. Especially during the 80's when I used to Call the Paul Perry Show on WHJJ where I was known as the character Darrel B. I also called Steve White and Howard Stern on many occasions.

(2)Called a request line?
> Yes. Growing up I would call Pro-FM often

(3)Entered a radio contest?
> Yes. Many. Won lots of prizes.

(4)Showed up at a remote because the station was there rather than by accident?
>Yes. Lots of Pro-FM remotes growing up. Ususally they were at Ann & Hope. Singer Laura Branigan was at one with Jock David Simpson.

(5)Voiced a complaint about a station either casually to a jock on the phone or formally to someone in charge?
>I've complained about a specific jock before who was at WARA Radio in Attleboro. One night he was just acting like a complete flake. Sounded drunk. I sent the PD a tape of it. Almost got the guy fired. This was when I was right out of school. I think I was trying to open up a position to get my first radio job. LOL

(6)Mentioned to a sponsor that you heard their ad on a station?
>I can never recall doing this.

How about as a radio person?

(1)Received gifts from listeners?
> Yes. Usually Pizza or some other food item.

(2)Gotten blatant sexual offers on the phone?
> Not blatant sexual offers... but I've had people voice intentions which would lead in that direction. Both from girls and Guys. One time when I was working evenings I let a Girl come down to the station where I gave her a tour. She was pretty but very spacey, so I had her leave as soon as I was done showing her around.

(3)Just showed up at a station with an aircheck hoping for an interview?
>Yes I did that... but ususally just ended up leaving the tape with the secratary.

(4) Secretly hoped the station you worked at did poorly just so they would change format?
> No.... since a change of format would have probably resulted in being taken off the air and possibly left me without a job. This scenario almost happened when I was working at WSAR and they changed from Music to TALK. Luckily they made me Production Director, Show Producer and Board Op. So I was still able to keep my job.

Just once I remember observing from a distance at one of the malls. WPRO-AM was broadcasting live for some reason at some stage they had set up & there were pictures of all the jocks up. I don't remember the year but Ed Cherubino was one of the jocks there at the time.

And did it work?

> How about as a radio person?

> (1)Received gifts from listeners?

Yes but in most cases things are brought in for the entire staff.
>
> (2)Gotten blatant sexual offers on the phone?

How about "made blatant sexual offers on the phone"? No strike that one.
>
> (3)Just showed up at a station with an aircheck hoping for

Yes & I actually did get a job that way. Right place right time & it happened quickly.

> (4) Secretly hoped the station you worked at did poorly just

Yes at those small stations where you work a format you hate. This doesn't happen much anymore since no one has to work at small AMs that play music everyone but the owner hates. Ironically they all did poorly anyway but survived on the fact that the sales staff could sell locally at the time so format changes were never options.

LOL

>>>> And did it work?

------------

Nope. The guy didn't get fired. However I had the shock of my life when I was hired back at another station and "THIS GUY" was now an employee there!!! My heart sank about 10 inches in my chest when I ran into him in the hall. He told me what had happened and he wasn't happy about it. This is how I found out that he was almost fired. It was one of the most uncomfortable situations of my life. I literally thought he was going to kill me. Luckily nobody at the station liked him very much and he ended up getting canned. Lesson to be learned. You never know who you are going to end up working with. Don't do what I did unless you are prepared for the possibilities.

It's not the size of the tower.....
It's how you use it.</P>
