Go Ahead, Make The Call

Somethings are just so obvious like:

Most cars with Oregon plates have been here at least five years.

Sheriff Joe's ego eclipses Andrew Thomas'.

Whoever laid out the roads at Sky Harbor was drunk.

And KT'R has the wrong talker in PMD.

By now everyone knows Joe Crummey is the guy who belongs in the big chair. He's hip, entertaining, and works his ass off when it comes to the issues that matter most. Where his show originates doesn't matter as he's more in touch with the Valley than those doing their shows from Central Avenue. And here's the big plus - his talent rubs off and makes everyone on 92~Three sound better.

The Master Blogger needs to call Mac 'n Cheese and tell him the vacation is permanent. He made a big mistake by not doing the obvious last year, so here's his chance to get it right. KT'R needs to get Evil!

Agree
Crummey needs to be in pm drive
Hill needs to take late mornings or middays
Kid needs to dump Ruben and Corina for good and get back to the talk game

I didn't listen to Crummy much when he was on the radio. But I've caught him every day going home this week. The guy seems to do nothing but take phone calls. He criticizes Obama and then opens the lines. I've been bored every day. There's nothing original. He sounds to me like every other Hannity wantabe. My vote is to keep Mac Watson.

Amen. Crummey is another Bush apologist conservative blowhard. Nothing new there, no real special talent. And definitely not hip. The best thing about listening to Crummey and Austin Hill this week is that they will make me appreciate Mac and Gaydos more.

A open note to the people who keep saying KTAR needs Crummey and Hill:

We already HAVE a station full of self-impressed idiots here. It's KFYI. Go listen to them, and leave the KTAR talkers alone. It's amazing how many people don't realize their radio has an off button.

It is odd how so many people on this board want Joe Crummey back on the air in Phoenix. Saying things like "he's hip and funny", but sidew has it mostly right; Crummey doesn't do much of anything that's 'hip' or all that original, he has a very brief opening monologue where he introduces a topic, then throws open the phones to take calls--survey radio at it's finest! Great, just what we need in the valley, more 1970s/80s style talk radio.

It takes almost no prep and basically no talent to throw out a topic and say "give me a call", yet a lot of people in the business do it, KTAR is full of people like this and look at the ratings, 11th place (technically 14th).

Guess we know how to awaken the Central Av Cheerleaders! Take the Akbar 'n Jeff Challenge: listen to Crummey, Aunt Carlos, Mac & Cheese for an hour and decide who has a better command of the issues and is the most entertaining. (notice how we purposely left Gaydos out?) If you're not completely in agreement, we'll never mention the Infamous Girlfriend again!

I've never understood why "phone-in" radio is interesting. There are only two possibilities:

1. The caller agrees with the host and you have to listen to several minutes of Kum Ba Yah -or-

2. The caller disagrees with the host and an argument and hang-up ensues.

As most call-ins are not knowledgeable people with unique views on the subject matter any conversation quickly turns into an opinion-fest and we all know how interesting those are.

Maybe the call-in shows are just a hang-around from the old days before there were blogs on the Internet on which to place your thoughts. Or maybe they are just colon-blow, in reverse.

I heard that a new show with Ray Thompson, Rita Davenport, Scott Connor and Edmus Scarey is in the planning stages.

Where are you when we need you Leeeeeenda Allllllllvarez?

I don't think any of the naysayers werre really listening or else they are Gaydos and Mac themselves and want to stop the Crummey talk :D! Crummey may make what he does sound easy but try it-it's not. And he's hilarious with the callers. Even those he diasagrees with, he usually ends up making friends with and getting a laugh out of them.

Joe Crummey does have a great way of making the appropriate news stories lighter and bring in some humor, whether he's talking to a specific caller or not.

I don't understand what the problem is with getting listeners involved and discussing some issues. Some people bring up great points that nobody thought of. They are pretty knowledgeable, and they are regular people that we all can relate to. Joe's also not afraid to hear opposing views, or admit that they may have a point. And believe me, he has in the two years that I've listened! How many hosts do that? Many other talk show hosts rudely brush off calls like that.

I think some here are also exaggerating with the amount of calls he takes anyways. It's not call after call, after call. That then would be survey-like.

And Patti is right, he does usually end up "making friends with and getting a laugh out of" the callers. It's great talk, and discussions... It ain't The Bickersons! ;D

Thanks, Lauren. Sorry I said what I did about Mac and Gaydos-that was mean. I had to spend 90 minutes outside at work today and was hot and grumpy still when I got home and read the anti-Crummey posts and I just reacted badly.

We're on the same side: pro-Crummey! But I was also speaking from my experience and comparing Joe to other hosts I have heard, in general. Mac and Gaydos aren't any of them, because this is the first week I've ever listened to 92.3.
