Go home program guide, you’re drunk!

The program guide at Zap2It.com lists WBTS and WJAR both airing local news starting at 9:59 PM tomorrow night. Even more odd, the guide lists the programs as “NBC 10 Boston News at 11” and “NBC 10 News at 11”, respectively.

1. Why would local news start at 9:59 PM instead of 10 PM, a more “round” number?
2. Since when do the local NBC stations in both Boston and Providence air local news at 10?
3. Why is the guide calling these broadcasts “news at 11”? Is it drunk? Are we going into a time warp before entering 2022?

TiVo’s listings do the same.

They’re calling it “at 11” because they likely just moved the ”11:00” listing to 10:00 as opposed to creating a new record for it. If I were running that railroad, I wouldn’t list the time in the program title itself, since you can already see what time it is on the grid. I’d just call them all “NBC 10 News” - much easier to maintain.

As for starting at 9:59: my guess is that it was a concession to the affiliates tomorrow night in return for losing some local commercial time due to network programming running during the regular local news slot. When the local news airs at 11:00, it runs 35 minutes, which allows the local affiliates to get more ad time.

It is only for New Year's Eve because of the NYE program with Mylie Cyrus & Pete Davidson. It will run straight through without interruption for news at 11.
