God reference on secular radio

Last night around midnight on WHUD as Dee Michelle was signing off, she said " Remember god loves you." I was surprised because that's the first time I've heard a blatant religious remark on radio. I'm not complaining. I'm just making an observation at how interesting it was. Even sappy Delilah avoids overt references to religion. Definitely surprising.

Have you ever heard a secular radio station play "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys, "Swearin' To God" ny Frankie Valli, "One Of Us" by Joan Osborne, "My Sweet Lord" by George Harrison, "Personal Jesus" by Depeche Mode, "None of Your Business" by Salt n Pepa, "Jesus Walks" by Kanye West or just about anything at Country radio? C'mon. Such a "none issue" topic!!!

It's not exactly an event like splitting the atom, but it is a topic worth bringing up...Yes, there are many songs with reference to God, but it is quite unusual for an air talent to use a religious phrase ...that wasn't the throw away "good night, God bless" type of phrase...Personally, I would have enjoyed hearing an air talent actually go that far outside liner card reading, but, at the same time my eyes would have opened wide and my jaw dropped for the same reason the original poster stated.

It was WHUD at midnight. Probably not a sign of an impending format switch to Contemporary Christian.

I'm trying to sit here and visualize (or is that auralize?) what reaction I would have had if I heard the program.

I live in the South where people may be a bit quicker to wear their faith-thoughts out on their shirt sleeves in public so it might have seemed a bit more common or normal.

Maybe you were not around in the days of "block programming" during those blocks when we played "Country 'n Western" there was this un-written rule: the last song of the hour before station break and top of the hour news was always our "Song of Faith". Never mind that we had just played three songs during the hour that included Hank Williams and "Your Cheatin Heart" and a couple of other cheating songs, we still had to give God his one song per hour.

By the way: when she signed off at midnight did she say god with a lower case g, or did she say God with an upper case G? That might make a difference in her propriety. ::)

Hey..It was important and an issue to the original poster, if it doesn't matter to you just ignore it instead of being condescending and pompous.

Hey..Relax. Maybe it was more interesting then splitting an atom on air to him.
You assume it was important, but maybe not, maybe just surprising as he said.
But thanks for the condescending and pompous admonishment.
