Godspeed, Bob Dyk

Jeff Peterson, who worked with Bob for a number of years at WMTW, did a nice tribute on WGME tonight. WMTW, as usual, was caught flat-footed and won't have anything meaningful to say until Monday.

Bob Dyk was the most unassuming, non-ego driven guy with whom I had the pleasure of working. Great stories (imagine giving Uncle Walter a verbal dope-slap?), easy demeanor and style from beginning to end.

And he never once, at least to me, mentioned he was battling for his life. The last time we crossed paths at work a few weeks back, he was working the phones and heading out to cover a story.

Rest easy, Bob - and I'll join OPW in hoisting a pint.

Bob Dyk...like so many other Maine Broadcasters who have gone on to work at that huge broadcast facility in the sky was another professional who will be missed!

I wish I could have caught the Jeff Peterson tribute? Knowing how professional JP is I'm sure it was excellent!

As for WMTW ("where news comes first")...they've got a competent on-air staff. But why does their news promo make them look ridiculous?
Tracking Tory Ryden (and others) walking quickly toward a mini-cam really makes the operation look like a throw-back to the 80s! :p

Anyway...R.I.P. Bob Dyk!

I met Bob a couple of times but had no idea he was as experienced as he was. I mean, the only American on the scene for four days in Tehran in 1979? That's the sort of stuff you'd expect someone to still be talking about today. Bob was as low-key and pleasant as they come, as I recall, and gave absolutely no indication of the ego that you'd expect from such a experienced and seasoned journalist.
