Going, going,gone!

It appears Radio Insight has finally shut down their community boards.
And we welcome their posters as well as Lance to RadioDiscussions! 👍

It was amazing on many previous RI boards there had been no comments in a year or more. Wow!
And that's why I shut them down. The only reason I had relaunched the Community in the first place was the piss-poor former management of this site. RadioInsight has long ago transitioned from a discussion site into a news based platform.

It's not like how it was 15-20 years ago when these boards all had vibrant communities and sometimes dozens of active discussions going on. With additional niche social media groups, there was no need for two nearly similar in setup boards (since I was responsible for the structure and layout of both sites).

That isn't to say I'm looking at doing something else at RadioInsight to bring some form of discussion aspects, albeit in a way not done anywhere else in radio.

Lance I always appreciated the availability of second forum, your efforts are much appreciated and yes there was a lot of poor management infighting amongst the people behind the scenes here a long time ago that made your forums a sanctuary.

Radio forums just don't bring the folks they used to... look at the Boston Radio List ( https://www.bostonradio.org/ ) at one point, long before websites that was a vibrant active community,,, even if Joe V was posting there...

I just wished you had closed the discussions but left the pages up for future research.... when this forum changed hands and domain names all the hyperlinks in old posts to other discussions on the boards went dead.

But I still look forward to reading your main pages, as well as Fybush.com and other sites that are still managing to cover their hosting costs.

As a 45-year broadcasting veteran (and hobbyist since the early 1960’s) it is blatantly obvious the explosion of time spent on the internet by people worldwide and in the USA the passage of the 1996 Tel Com bill....let’s be kind and say things on radio stations have “changed”. A lot. Stations with much smaller on air staff, heavy automation, growing nationwide network programming...there’s a lot of bland stuff out there. I always felt when interest in radio by its most passionate supporters fades (hobbyists), that’s very telling. Reality. Can the industry re-invent itself? I hope so.

I hope it doesn't happen but it probaably will....eventually, even this site's posting will start to dwindle away as most of us using it are older radio geeks/pros/DJs/etc. We all can't live forever but I'll stick around as long as I can!

Quite a few of us on here also post at TVNewsTalk, and for disclosure, I’m a moderator on their Discord platform “The News Center”. Some posters are pros but a lot are hobbyists, designers and researchers… but the worry about that platform being sustainable in the long run in its current state definitely exists. (To wit, their Discord platform has channels devoted to all sorts of non-broadcast topics like food, sports, weather alerts, Saturday morning cartoons, voiceovers and even pro wrestling, with two “opt-in” channels for politics and Covid-19 that aren’t visible if you don’t want them.)

I don’t know what the future holds there or here but it’s better to collaborate and cooperate. It’s a very good thing that the fractures and schisms that developed due to prior management have mended and are healing.
