GOLD COAST AD IN P.S. PAPER

This morning Gold Coast, owner of KCAQ 104.7 Oxnard put a large ad in the Desert Sun Newspaper urging KWXY listeners to write to the FCC in an effort to block the Palm Springs 104.7 move to Redlands and R/R broadcasting's plan to put the KDES format on 98.5. To expidite this they also put a web site up as well. Gold Coast has not filed an informal objection with the FCC as at least they know it would be groundless given the move fits with room to spare. Apparently they know that the many apps they have for on frequency boosters in paces like Corona, Moreno Valley and the OC would be shot down in the process. All this will just slow down the FCC's grant of the move as they have to look thru the stuff. KCAL-fm 96.7 Redlands did file an informal objection to the move of 104.7 to Redlands which will add more time to the grant being ok'd. Meantime, it has been determined by R/R that the KWXY calls and format will be put on 1340am.

The folks over at Gold Coast, also known as High Desert Broadcasting, should focus their energy on their Antelope Valley operations, HDB is telling folks they are going broke, after a house cleaning in te AV. I must admit I did like KDES, as I enjoyed the programming on the way to town from Gorman.

Isn't High Desert Broadcasting run by a former employee of one of the radio groups in Palm Springs? Could all this just be sour grapes from a loser who got fired?

Interesting, I know High Desert was being run by Gary DeMaroney (I worked with Gary D in PS) who used to be with Desert Radio Group (Morris Comm). I don't think he had any Sour Grapes with R/R. Is it just a business decision not wanting Lieberman to cut the pie in possible Ad Dollars when everybody in SoCal is trying to meet projections? High Desert is in Palmdale isn't it?

Gary owns Copper Mountain broadcasting, 92.1 and 96.3 in 29 Joshua Tree and 29 Palms in the high desert. Gary has applied to move 92.1 down into the Coachella Valley market with the col of Thermal. No one filed an informal objection to it. Gold Coast owns High Desert, Point and Herron. The Antelope Valley stations they own are under the High Desert banner, except 106.9 California City while in that cluster is technically owned by Point as I recall. The same people are listed as principals in all 4 corporations with John Hearn Jr. of Santa Monica the head.

The 104.7 move to Redlands eliminates any hope KCAQ in their attempt to become an L.A. move in. Why else would they be concerned enough to spend so much $ and effort to fight it.

Hunter is right on the mark. It's not just sour grapes ( or sour dates ) it's the big MOVE IN's from Ventura to LA on 104.7 and 101.5. --- But get this -- They are BLOCKED from moving KZLA FM 98.3 A from Huron to 98.3 B1 at Riverdale. Besides the fact that Riverdale does not exist --- Huron has no other operating radio service. OOOOOPPS. It's OK for Gold Coast -- but not for others to move. Yet not one objection to the Huron Move. What -- no one in Palm Springs knows about Gold Coasts Huron move. --- Now they do. Would someone please file an objection with the FCC -- ASAP. (PS: you don't have to take out a full page add -- just write the FCC.) And Gold Coast is having money problems.

I just wish I could get a gig in Palm Springs!!!! Anyone know of anything? Anything at all? Bueller? Anyone?
