Goldberg on Povich

Kudos to Bernard Goldberg. Last night on "The Factor" during a discussion regarding "reality tv" Bernie called Maury Povich every name that could be used without censoship. Good for him. Povich show is akin to dog vomit and my apology to dog vomit. These poor dregs of society who produce children one after another. To base a TV program on which one of the ten guys is the father of your latest child is repulsive. How can Povich look at himself in a mirror? Sadly, someone is watching otherwise it wouldn't be on the air. At least with Springer you know going in that it is farce and a circus, however, Povich is the benchmark for garbage.

A story has it that even while hosting "A Current Affair", Povich, the son of legendary Washington newspaper columnist Shirley Povich, got an earful from Walter Cronkite at a party.

Wonder what Uncle Walter thought of the "Baby Daddy" series? lol.

Any of you remember "The Jenny Jones Show"? she had the same topic every single day, I think it was makeovers or something and it was boring to watch, luckily the show got canned. Now this guy, Maury Povich, has the same topic every single day, no creativity whatsoever and he is still on the air, I don't get it.

There should be more media critics to take on the status of certain daytime talk programs, i've never understood how Maury Povich got himself involved with "trash talk", he was a respected journalist for years, i say the same
thing for Jerry Springer and Steve Wilkos, Mr. Springer had a political career, and Mr. Wilkos is a former Chicago
Cop, who once worked for Springer as a bodyguard when the fights got out of hand, i think it's time for these
"dysfunctional" shows to go away, but if their ratings are holding steady, what can you do?

Apparently, you missed the "guess who's my secret admirer" episode which resulted in the death of a man, basically because he wasn't a woman who was a secret admirer. It was all over the news.

It was just a matter of time before someone brought that incident up...
:-\

Not to start an argument, but when I look at Fox News pundits - I do understand the appeal of people like Hannity, O'Reilly, and Beck, though I share almost none of their political views. Beck, in particular, is a very compelling communicator.,,it's almost scary how articulate he is.

But honestly - how can anybody tolerate (and even enjoy) the ugly verbal spewing of angry, whiny malcontent a**holes like Bernie Goldberg or Dick Morris?

I just don't get it.

And I'm not saying that to defend Povich in any way. I can't stand his show and haven't watched it for even a second in probably 15 years.

Indeed I do.

We can revisit that question when Fox Business Network gives them their own weekend talk shows.

Springer once said "I've been everything you can't trust - a used car salesman, a politician, a news anchor, and now a tabloid talk host".
These shows, along with the seemingly endless parade of judge shows, pull acceptable ratings and keep the revenue from trade schools and ambulance chasing lawyers coming in.

Aren't you forgetting that Maury's show used to be just your ordinary talk show, with surprisingly and interesting topics and guests...and that was when CBS/Paramount syndicated the show (it's still produced by Maury's production company, MoPo Productions)!

That all changed in 1998 when NBC Universal took over the rights, but YouTube has a handful of the 1991-98 clips.

Tom Leykis can be considered the Povich/Springer of radio. Years ago, he did a politically-oriented show (one day, it was simulcast on C-SPAN). Then he decided that the show was "not hosted by a right wing wacko or a convicted felon" and decided to cater toward the male demographic with his "Leykis 101" schtick.

Currently, his show is off the air, though he does host a weekly radio show about wine, for which he has been selling some of the advertising through eBay.
