Golden Girls to HALLMARK & WE in 2009

Why 2 networks? As for the Hallmark Channel they been getting a little younger by adding 7th Heaven and sure they are still family friendly then say ABC Family which should be ABC Teen. Its a plus for Hallmark. As for WE which is in competion with Lifetime its not that great. Its just the leftovers your compeitor once aired.

After 12 years on Lifetime, The Golden Girls will move to The Hallmark Channel and the WE Network in the spring of 2009.

Come on, Marc... are you sure you didn't get an email alert tipping you off about this news? It is known to be one of your favorite shows...

Looks like Hallmark is slowly adding more sitcoms, with "Cheers" and "I Love Lucy" coming in the next couple of years.

Actually sooner. Cheers and I Love Lucy are coming to Hallmark in the fall.

On a sidenote, what show do you think is replacing Golden Girls on Lifetime? I'm kind of leaning towards Desperate Housewives replacing them since Lifetime has the rights to cable reruns of the show.

According to the article I read, Lifetime wants to move toward more original programming. Funny but the "Golden Girls," never was big in my town of Chicago. It didn't last over the air in reruns for more than a season, before being replaced by "Empty Nest," which didn't last long either. Both were on WGN-TV in Chicago.

I wonder how many local stations re-run the "Golden Girls."

Lucky for me Hallmark is on regular cable. I know in some areas its on digital which sucks.

A side note, does Hallmark still have the rights to JAG? I know USA Network did but I don't think they air JAG anymore. It was a great show and would be nice if someone picked it up again. Spike TV should or someone. Same goes with Nashbridges.

USA Network still carries JAG on an off and on basis. They usually show it during the early morning hours along with Walker: Texas Ranger. I think that Hallmark lost rights to JAG about a couple of years ago.

WGN in Chicago on the national cable feed shows Nash Bridges with 2 episodes at 9:00 and 10:00 AM Central Time.

JAG airs once or twice in the morning, or not at all, depending on the whims of USA's movie scheduling.

Im not going to get up that early just to watch Jag. They used to air it at 10am then again at night around 7pm or so. I also see they air Becker. They air it also in the afternoon as I saw it on the air during that time.

To add about Becker, why are they showing it with the black lines on top and bottom? When this show aired on CBS they never had it. So why is USA doing it?

The only classic sitcom currently on Hallmark is MASH, which is also on TV Land.

With I Love Lucy and Cheers going to Hallmark in the fall, does that mean they will be dropped on TV Land? I've also read where ION is getting MASH. Does this mean that it will be dropped on either TV Land or Hallmark?

I won't be surprised to find out that TV Land starts letting some classic shows go to make room for more reality garbage. If that's the case I hope that Hallmark will continue to pick up what TV Land drops and become more of a classic TV network.
