Golden Globes

Anybody watch?

I thought Ricky was excellent. Could have used more of him announcing the presenters and less of the announcer announcing the presenters. But the show more or less moved along with some good humor mixed in.

Reese Witherspoon looked stunning! Jessica Alba looked fantastic...didn't she just have a baby?? Elle McPherson looked great. Charlize Theron looked terrific. And Stacy Kiebler (model/former WWF'er/George Clooney's current girl-toy) looked great.

Angelina looked horrible.

Looks to me like the producers neutered Ricky. he wasn't nearly as mean as he was last year. Either that or he was just shy about being too snarky with the audience. Last year he killed me with the joke about helping that old guy get off the toilet and put his teeth back in. I really enjoy watching some of the stuffed shirt "hollywood" types get a good dressing down. Hollywood takes itself too serious. I wish Ricky had unloaded on them. It would have been a hoot.

Ricky sure didn't hide those drinks--whether he'd had a sip out of any of them or not.

Haven't seen any of the red carpet stuff yet but most on-stage looks were definitely photo-worthy. Just found a few pics on pages 4D and 5D of Monday's USA Today in case anyone's into the fashion stuff.

And the Golden Globes (TV categories) went to::::

TV series, drama - Homeland
Actor, drama - Kelsey Grammer, Boss
Actress, drama - Claire Danes, Homeland
TV series, comedy/musical - Modern Family
Actor, comedy/musical - Matt LeBlanc, Episodes
Actress, comedy/musical - Laura Dern, Enlightened
TV movie/miniseries - Downton Abbey
Actor, TV movie/miniseries - Idris Elba, Luther
Actress, TV movie/miniseries - Kate Winslet, Mildred Pierce
Supporting Actor, series/TV movie/miniseries - Peter Dinklage, Game of Thrones
Supporting Actress, series/TV movie/miniseries - Jessica Lange, American Horror Story

I'd rather get a tooth pulled than watch Ricky.

Looking at that list of winners................who, what, where? Sounds like the show kinda
stunk. The Golden Globes may have turned into brass this year.

It will be interesting to see how they did ratings wise. I think Napoleon Dynamite on FOX
was waaaay better.

WHATTTT!!!??? I have never watched/heard of those shows. Am I that out of touch?

I agree. Maybe HBO and Showtime send out a nice gift basket to each voter?????

Ratings were flat in the first overnights........maybe lower when all are added in.

"Anybody watch?"

Nope. I was too busy installing a satellite receiver at a neighbour's flat to even care.

And I heard someone on the radio this morning commenting on how "great" she looked. ??? I didn't see the whole show, so I didn't see Angelina, but I would probably agree with your assessment of her.

I don't think I could sit through an entire evening of awards shows. I tend to watch the recaps on those "celebrity-gossip" type shows.

Don't feel bad. But the fact is, most critically acclaimed dramas are now on premium or basic cable. You'd miss a few if you don't pay for Showtime and/or HBO (Boardwalk Empire, Homeland), but I'd say that an even greater number of these terrific shows are on basic cable (Breaking Bad and Mad Men - AMC, Justified and Sons of Anarchy - FX, etc).

Personally, I pay for HBO, but not Showtime...to save money - I rent the Shotwime dramas from NetFlix. They are released about 6 months after they play on the network.

For the most part, these are very worthy programs (IMHO), and definitely better than the regular fare on the major networks, with a few exceptions. The Good Wife (CBS) is a consistently good show, Downton Abbey (PBS) is excellent, and I've heard that Person of Interest (CBS) is also great, though I haven't checked it out yet.

She looked bony, skeletal, and overly made up to prevent her from looking bony and skeletal. She used to be pretty but not anymore, or at least not last night.

So in other words, I really didn't miss anything? ;D Maybe the commentators were commenting on her clothes, because she always looks bony and skeletal, at least nowadays!
