Golden Triangle Update

Amazingly, KOLE still has the non-stop Ronnie Linden marathon still going on 24 hours / day. I'm not sure how the owners of this station run their other stations, but it amazes me that they are even on the air rerunning the same junk over and over and over and over and over again.

KDEI has finally gotten their tower lights fixed after having been out for most of this year. Congratulations! Maybe airplanes will not run the risk of crashing into your towers now.

Great update, Stan - thanks.

Do you know anything about the status of KBPO 1150-AM? Before Hurricane Ike, a broker was trying to sell the station for $ 250,000 without a studio! Their most recent Silent STA request to the FCC claims they lost about everything at the Vidor TX site in the Ike flood.

Also, I'm interested to know if 1300-AM at Silsbee has made its directional tower move. Last I heard, they were trying to build out a directional site north of Beaumont.

As for KOLE -- That's amazing news, I have no idea what they're thinking -- the station as you know is owned by Sima Birach who owns a bunch of AMs across the U-S that sell brokered time. Not sure what's in store for KOLE, if anything.

I don't know the status of KBPO, other than it has been essentially off the air forever, it seems. As for KSET 1300, I have not been up to the Lumberton area lately but others have stated that the tower construction has not occurred. I'm not sure what they are up to, but the Golden Triangle certainly has a dying AM market. Birach's KOLE, the move of KRCM to the Woodlands (which hasn't occurred yet), and the lack of meaningful local content on KLVI is depressing, but I guess it is what we have come to expect for this area.

KBPO is off the air, still, no work has been done to it as far as I know and the license renewal was dismissed.

1380 KRCM In Beaumont is still off. The last I heard is they are moving to The Woodlans but that has been months. Anyone know the status of the station now and what the power will be.

All I know is what I readon the FCC database:

http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/amq?list=0&facid=14228

They have a CP to build a 250 watt daytimer (7 watts doesn't count as night service) licensed to Shenandoah outside of The Woodlands. They also have an application for a 2-tower directional with 10kw daytime. I believe earlier threads warned of adjacent channel issues with that application.

KRCM/ KULP/ KWWJ

Fred is correct about the interference concerns that were raised here before about a potential 10000 watt upgrade from north of Houston for KRCM 1380.

I recall reading some comments about the potential interference that 1380 at 10000 watts -- even on two towers directional -- would cause for KULP 1390 in El Campo and on KWWJ 1360 in Houston.

Okay, since nobody raised their hand and said let's do it before now (for whatever reason), let's talk about it here. Bottom line, my phone didn't ring and the offer has been out there for well over a year. An upgraded KRCM can and probably would cause considerable interference to both KULP 1390 and KWWJ 1360 if that application gets approval. But with two changes, both classified as "minor" ones under FCC rules, the issue could be solved. So KRCM, instead of trying to skirt adjacent-channel interference to KULP by sending way too much signal toward Baytown, could then pump much more of their 10,000 watts directly toward Houston.

So that's my answer, which I'm putting up for grabs on a public forum because nobody bit and I frankly lost interest. So go for it, KRCM, or sell it to somebody who will. If your engineering people didn't explore that kind of plan, they should have, since the current application may never get approval. And as for any compensation for me, I'm pretty reasonable.

not to change the subject but I miss the old days when Beaumont stations were in Beaumont.

I miss KWIC 108 (107.9) , B95 , KHYS 98.5 , KAYD 97.5 haha

Speaking of B95, Jerry Lousteau (Ugly Jerry) was my neighbor when he was at B95. Fine guy. The last I heard he owned and operated a radio station in Mississippi.

You are right about Beaumont stations moving to Houston. Beaumont radio is much less competitive now that is has lost 93.3, 97. 5 or what ever it is, 98.5 and 108 (109.9 KWIC,
