Gone Country ???

Predictions:

100.3 to be country with possible new call sign, will last about a year till it's gotten rid of.
93.1 to be country until they can secure an oldies format.
Merle FM to go deep classic country.
95.7 / 106.7 to stay the same.

Ok, I'll play.

100.3 goes country. Stays family owned for another 10 years and then is signed off.

93.1 goes True Oldies. This move, like most of Journal's moves, lasts less than 8 months. They replace the format with hispanic News/Talk.

Merle FM stays country, but, still, nobody knows since there are no actual listeners.

95.7 / 106.7 seeing a real opening in the market goes Urban only to be sold Citadel once they reorganize.

If 100.3 goes, country, and after news/talk moves to 98.7, I think someone else will definitely pick up the classic hits format. Either Journal on 93.1, South Central with 95.7/106.7, or one of the rimshot locally owned guys (96.7, 106.1 or 105.3). Only question is will they go cheap and run something syndicated like True Oldies Channel or Classic Top 40, or will they actually put on a locally produced classic hits format.

As far as 100.3 goes, if the the WOKI calls return (no matter the format), I've always thought "K100" would be a good moniker for that station. K goes with the call letters, plus, of course, it would stand for Knoxville. It could work as a name for a country station, classic hits station, or a CHR.

95.7/106.7 had the Oldies format in Knoxville before they switched to Jack-FM. They are pulling in better numbers with Jack than they did with Oldies, so I don't see South Central switching back to a format that they failed with previously. Only if 93.1 switches to Oldies will they do it locally, any other station wil pick up the syndicated formats.

To quote the Kinks, "Give The People What They Want."

Why not put the True Oldies format on 100.3?

Because there is a larger listener and revenue base for country.

I expect to see cowboys hats on the Pirkles and Ed in the very near future.
