Gone from 970 WFLA

After nearly 9 years with the Tampa newsroom, I am no longer associated with 970 WFLA or Clear Channel Radio. I was recently let go as part of the "workforce reduction" effort underway at the Tampa cluster. At this time, those are the only details that I can release. To my friends and colleagues in the business, look for a lot more changes ahead.

Damn, I still miss some of the mom & pop's being around... That's what I was fortunate enough to work mostly part time in for 28 years in Manatee / Sarasota Counties...

Best of luck, wherever you go.. You will be an improvement to any news operation you end up with...

Robert, you were a class act on and off the air. It's ashamed whats happening and what appears to be far from done this year.

You should be calling Brad James, (at Genesis), ASAP..... That is if you want to stay in town or possibly move to Orlando.

Doesnt Genesis get their news from Metro (Clear Channel)?

With the way their people mispronounce Sarasota landmarks and roads, it's obvious they have little knowlede of this area.

Of course they get their news from Metro. It doesn't cost money, just inventory. And they have plenty of that.
 
Why doesn't clear channel just go ahead and lay everyone off and let the computers run the station. Go into the Sarasota cluster on any given day and you'll find six stations on autopilot.

they are killing the industry little by little.....and explain this to me, a guy like maverick johnson who had pretty darn good ratings for years was late go, but yet, dan sileo still has a gig.......he must work for minimum wage.

and what is tampa doing getting rid of quality news people? they are feeding the nearly empty sarasota cluster news as it is - sarasota dropped their news operation - not that it was ever much of one - a few months back...

it's sad, just sad. the mays family sucks.....
 
I am sorry to hear that the management of WFLA and as well as the entire Clear Channel radio stations are letting good people go. Robert, I hope we will be listening on another station very soon. I keep reading that Clear Channel is going to be sold. It is sad to let people go just make the books like good. Very talented people. Robert, Good Luck and Be well.
 
Robert good luck to you, your talents will be missed in the 970 newsroom, you would think with 9 years of success you have some security but not in the clear channel world, we can all hope the rumors are true and clear channel is looking to start breaking up the clusters.
