Gone With The Whitfield

Joylynn Whitfield is no longer working at Channel 8. Her last day was last Friday. Would someone PLEASE stop the bleeding???

Did she leave on her own or was she forced out? If she left on her own do you blame her?
Except for the anchors and Hetsko, I don't think there is one person in that news department that wouldn't jump at an opportunity to bail out of 8 for something better. Whose next to leave? Don't be surprised if Lando and Irwin are next to go. It seems the more money one makes at Channel 8, the larger the bulleye on their back.

It would be interesting to find out if Whitfield's contract was not renewed, or that the pending sale of WROC TV prompted her to find employment at another station.

Who knows, perhaps like the two people at Channel 13 (Webb and Clark) she decided to leave for a larger market.

Good luck!

I'd heard a year ago that Eldridge wanted to get rid of her, even though he hired her.

Her contract was up, or her 2-year out came up, and she probably booked on her own.

or not. There is a new dude running the place.

I see Lando (who should be nominated for the President Franklin award) is now anchoring on 8, and Doran had to do FOX a couple weekends ago. Last one out, turn out the lights.

According to Jack Allen, who has his own website that reports on Rochester television, www.rnyn.com Whitfield left the station to “pursue other opportunities in the Midwest where her family resides.” Translation: she doesn’t have a job but is looking, which means that most likely her contract wasn’t renewed.

Plus Allen reports that 8 has cutback Scott Hetsko’s weather reports to make way for more local news. Hetsko is one of the few audience draws that station has so of course( according to the consultants and management) it’s the right thing to do to reduce his air time. ::)

So when is the President Franklin awards going to be presented this year? I missed out on the ceremonies last year because I had more important things to do. My lawn needed cutting.

Channel 8 doesn't have any reporters except Dave McKinley and Kevin Jolly. They are at an all-time low. Jenny Chu and Matt Malloy have seemed to have slid in anchor spots.

How in hell did Eldridge expect to run that place if his goal was to get rid of people who actually knew the market and worked at the station for a number of years? Granted a few of those who were let go or found other jobs were mediocre, but several former employees actually were very good reporters, weather people and anchors. Can you imagine what that station would look like today if Eldridge was still there? I feel bad for the new person who took over the news department.
Except for maybe McKinley and a few others (and I mean a very few) the news director has little to work with in the way of experienced people. Its a shame to read that Nexstar won't be selling 8. That was the only salvation that place had.

I see that Jenny Chu is pregnant... (Thanks to the glass podium on the Fox 31 set) she looks fairly well along, what are they going to do when she's on maternity leave ?? They're bare bones as it is now... I've not seen Jolly in awhile (still there or vacation ?) Health Reporter Elizabeth Harness has been doing general reporting. I've not seen a health report from her in at least the last week...

From just a viewers standpoint (that's me) to notice this sort of thing isn't good.

Why take away Hetsko's time ?? He's at least the most entertaining of the bunch... I noticed while I was on vacation (last 2 weeks) and away from the area, they changed to a 7 day forecast ?? I've not once heard any of them even give notice to the furthest out 2 days... The weather changes so quickly around here, why bother with 7 days out... I can't see where that helps us viewers... Just cuz everyone else does it ??
