Good Afternoon, America

formeraa said:
GAA sounds like it will be similar to the 3rd and 4th hours of Today, very soft and fluffy!

Good God. How can GAA be any more soft and fluffy thatn GMA? Unless you are a gal 18-34, the morning show is already nauseating and too damm loud! BTW, who is the nerdy reporter, with the nerdy voice, who is on all the time? He's TERRIBLE, yet he appears to be some sort of up and coming star.

Wait, what time will it air? It won't make sense to call it "Good Afternoon" if it's directly after GMA. It would have to air sometime in the afternoon, obviously.

It's just filler until GH moves to 2pm, and Katie (syndicated) launches at 3pm.

If GH is cancelled next year around this time, this program could reappear the following summer.

Correct. This is basically a prototype show, a nine week experiment. Would be a smart move to expand upon the GMA branding instead of launching something unfamiliar, at least if you're trying to keep costs down.

Still curious to see what ABC non-O&O's will run in the current GH timeslot when that show moves an hour earlier.

At this rate, one gets the feeling that the ABC affiliates are hoping that this nine-week run is just that, since they already had made plans for what they will air after "General Hospital."

Wonder if KOMO will either next season...
1. Air Katie's new show
2. Air Steve Harvey's new talk show, or
3. Air ANOTHER hour of news.

I'm voting 50/50 on 1 or 2. Someone's gotta take Katie.

It'll also compete with The Talk, which is also taped live and is chatty, allthough the two will compete for just the summer. But maybe it'll do well at The Talk's expense.

Too bad, it's not going to be continued to in the Fall. It'd be nice if GMA would focus less on Dancing With the Stars recaps and other fluff content, and that could move to this program. GMA is less and less ABC News driven.

Both shows have cleared in most markets, esp. the big ones. I think there is an affiliate list for both out there.

Why stop with Mornings and Afternoons? ABC should air "Good Night America"; a show designed to put insomniacs to sleep by featuring boring dribble and fluff. Oh wait! The network already does that with GMA and now GAA. ::)

Katie Couric's show isn't an ABC show- the network is giving the 3pm hour (2pm in Central time and some cities like Los Angeles) back to the affiliates. Katie just happens to be cleared by the ABC O&O's since its being produced by Disney.

We should stop talking about her show, though, as if its ABC's show- when they're essentially abandoning an hour of programming come September.

From my understanding, it'll be 3pm in all time zones, not just Eastern. Currently, KABC has Dr. Oz at 3pm, and it'll surely move up a hour once Katie comes aboard, and I read the same thing will happen in Chicago, where WLS has Inside Edition and Jeopardy! currently in the 3pm hour slot (the latter has been in the same slot for the entire 28 years it's been on the air), and both will move a hour earlier. Certainly, this is due in part to keep the 4pm newscasts in place on both stations.

I hear the ABC is thinking about changing the name of World News Tonight to Good Evening America (GEA)!

Great choice. Then you can play a couple of lullabies with that, too. :D :D :p

Back in the '70s, as part of ABC's late-night "Wide World Of Entertainment" potpourri, they did occasional shows with Geraldo Rivera called "Good Night America."

Back to Katie, no, she's not going to be on every ABC affiliate; I know that in Orlando NBC affiliate WESH is going to carry her.

And somebody has already answered the question I intended to ask: what if GH viewers don't follow the soap to 2 PM? GAA sounds like the logical replacement, although that's yet to be seen since it hasn't debuted yet. While I'm not a GH fan and never have been I would like to see it do well at 2, if only as counterprogramming to "The Talk."

I also wonder at what point CBS will put "Let's Make A Deal" at 10 AM on all its affiliates and follow ABC and NBC in giving 3 PM back to the affiliates.

It appears 3pm is already given back to the affiliates.

Atleast WUSA 9 (CBS) DC owned by Gannett, as well as WBOC 16 (CBS) in Salisbury which is a smaller affiliate both air 'Rachael Ray' at 3pm.

So, I'd presume affiliates could 'Let's Make a Deal' it at 10am or 3pm (or 4pm but probably nobody). Maybe if the affiliate was bold enough, it'd not air it all.

"The Revolution" will be off the air come July.

Should "The Chew"'s ratings plunge in the next few weeks, I can see "Good Afternoon America" stay around after it's Summer run.

While "GAA" will no doubt be mostly soft infotainment, I can actually see the show's format over two weeks in late August/early September become mostly political, to coincide with the national political conventions (Republicans August 27th-30th in Tampa Bay; Democrats September 3rd-6th in Charlotte), with "GAA"originating from the convention cities.
