Good and Bad Today On 'DBO and 810

For once in my life I heard an absolutely FANTASTIC spot! Listen for it on WDBO. It was for a bar-b-que sauce, I think it was called "Bullseye". It was, like I said, absolutely fantastic! It got the message across. You need to hear it to appreciate it! And guess what...it was TOTALLY VOID of someone repeating the phone number or website URL 4, 5, or 6 times! Better yet, it didn't even have a female with a fake voice! Must of been produced by an actual radio person!

On the other hand...the disaster of 810. They had an investing program on in the late afternoon. It was definitely live. Not one, not two but three times or maybe more it was interupted by pieces of other programs! Great going guys! I'm impressed! Another entry into radio of the 21st century!

For far too long of a time spot production was/is considered a "performance" by the person "producing" the spot. Forget about the ONLY PURPOSE of the spot...to make a pitch to motivate the listener to contact the advertiser...the purpose has come to be some type of "showcase" to show-off the alleged talent. The more over exaggerated sound effects, the more electronic affects, the more editing which was supposedly "creative" then the better the spot was. Forget about the pitch. I remember a client who was supposedly hard to satisfy in a mid-western market. The salesman was unsuccessful selling this guy even though he brought in a cassette of the latest "creative production" every time. What finally sold this client was our announcer using a "donut" approach...our announcer, then the client recorded by telephone then our announcer to close. "Recorded by telephone?", you ask? Absolutely! It gave the impression of immediacy, of urgency and you better get your a-- down here and buy some jeans before somebody beats you to it! It was nothing more than a pitch and thats exactly what it was supposed to be. And speaking of advertising...why is it that religious stations seem to be so gullible and accept any advertising, especially these STUPID P. I. deals? Want to have fun? Listen to one of these stations (which will proudly tell you they stand for "truth") and make a list of their non-local advertising. Google them or check them out on consumer related websites. Its complaint after complaint of fraud and deception. Does the Seasilver scam come to mind? The legal action from the FTC and 7 figure financial penalties is a matter of record. In a few years the same guy was back on religious radio hawking chewable vitamins!

Fantastic production still gets fantastic response. I guess that is rare these days.

Would the new K92 TV spot qualify as "fantastic production"? ::)
