Article from RADIOWORLD, as I've said a number of times I visited this site, when I was kid, my Dad would go by it on a weekend, when we were in that area, going by it was FUN, with the car radio on 1010!!!
Since I knew Alan Freed, later Bruce Murrow, then Murray The K, Mad Daddy, Jack Lacey, Stan Z Burns, and so many others came off those towers.
(the old 4 in-line towers that were replaced in 1995)
When I got older and started to drive, I'd go by it, if the engineer/s there were not busy they'd give me a tour and talk.
I was there when they were building the new array in 1995, visiting the NYC area to see family, as always got a tour and talked abit, again only if the person/s there was not busy doing something that had to be done now. I'd always asked - OK for a visit & talk.
I respected that part of their job.
Later, I did transmitter work at Sutro Tower, and gave tours (if not busy) when people came into the Sutro office for something, it was FUN.
