Lee Roy Selmon's passing has touched many people, but in addition to the fact that he was one of the nicest people I have ever met anywhere, I remember that he appreciated a good locker room style prank as much as anyone. Back when he used to appear on 970 WFLA, he was working with Larry Blucher (another good guy). Larry for some reason had a streak where he couldn't remember if he was pitching to me doing the news or Joe Allen. Finally, Joe decided it was time to pull a gag on Larry. After Larry once again pitched to me when Joe was supposed to be on Joe put on his best intimidating cowboy face (and it was a good one), stormed into the talk studio and loudly threatened all kinds of what for if it happened again. (Joe might have winked at Lee Roy on the way out, but I"m not sure.) So for the next break where I was up Joe sat in the newsroom and made sure that Larry saw him. So when Larry turned his back and pitched to Joe. I slipped into the newsbooth and when Larry heard me doing the headline he, was beside himself. Since Lee Roy was facing the newsbooth he saw what happened and kept a straight face, until Larry started coming unglued and nearly fell out of his chair laughing before he told Larry that he'd been had. I have a lot of interesting radio memories, but getting a belly laugh out of Lee Roy is one of my favorite moments.
