Good cause, bad radio

Sure, it is said to be a good cause, but the Red Sox game was painful to listen to today. Worst than a GBH Beg-a-thon. "Golly, let's pitch in to end cancer, and plug my new movie/CD/TV show... Oh yeah, and someone just got a hit, I think. Back to you, Glen, in the urinals..."

it's definitely an unpopular thing to say and this shouldn't be taken to mean I don't support the charity but how many people think the two day telethon on WEEI causes people to change the station? I've tuned them out the past few days.

I also usually listen, and haven't for the past 2 days. If they were able to provide a mix of sports talk and the radiothon stuff, I might have been able to listen.

WEEI is so awful right now , Im now listening to The Two Live Stews on WILD-AM ( This is really Bad ) . Good cause is Bad radio .

OMG, I heard that! "I've been carrying the Jimmy Fund Can since I was 3" and then a minute later, "I started at age 8 when a friend died". Actors should never speak without a script! ::)

If Eliza was seen, it would have been totally different - she is a major BABE!
Too bad you caan't tell that from radio... ;D ;D ;D

It was far worse, and for no cause at all, than to "Blank" the CEO of Shaw's Supermarket to hear Julie Kahn blabber incoherently through an inning of play by play during one of last week's Red Sox games.
Even the play by play announcers sounded like they couldn't believe this bimbo was in their studio and they had to try to make sense out of what she was saying.

I'm not sure it supposed to be anything but, "bad radio." Jerry Lewis's MDT was "bad" two generations ago, and he wasn't even doing play-by-play.

There is no reason a charity drive has to be 'bad radio'. I remember Charles LaQuidara pulling this off over 'two generations' ago. I'm sure there have been others.

Blackroc should working in middle management for WEEI (if he doesn't already) "We're making money for something we're told is a good cause, so I guess it is ok if we don't even try to make it entertaining. WE'RE DOING IT FOR THE KIDS, and if you don't like it, YOU DON'T LOVE JESUS!" ::)

there's this mystique about Jerry, though... HEY LAAAAAADY...

I half jest but I like watching parts of the telethon if, for nothing else, morbid curiosity about Jerry. And I don't think it'd be Labor Day weekend without him. Hey, there has to be SOMEWHERE for Charo to perform every year. :D

It was bad radio for two days. What I dislike most is the phony crap spewed by all of the hosts and co-hosts. I think the only one on the station who might give a rat's a-- about kids with cancer is Dale Arnold. The rest are faking it. Ordway, Pete the Meat, Meter, and Holley just can't put on a convincing enough act. At least we were spared the pain of listening to the two biggest phonies of them all.........Dennis and Callahan.

Maybe they see it as a radio 'get out of jail free card'; we may be 'bad boys', but once a year we help out the Jimmy Fund. Of course, playing the 'at least we care about kids' card didn't work out for Imus, or did it?... ;)

Well said ;D

"Begging for dollars" seems to tug at the heartstrings of the people who have the disease. But for the majority of listeners...chalk up a pledge drive as another bad commercial that's usually uttered by spokespeople who are enjoying a weekend at the Waldorf courtesy of somebody else's credit card! :p

Dale Arnold commented on this thread on D&H this morning, saying he would "put a dial tone on air for three days" if it meant raising the kind of money they did during the drive. I couldn't agree with him more, and I actually think it makes for absolutely wonderful listening. When I heard a little girl, who is a patient and benefits from the Jimmy Fund, sing "take me out to the ballgame" Thursday morning... I was truly touched; very little that went wrong at work that day seemed all that damning.

Someone commented ealrier that Dale seems to be the only one who cares about the kids...although I doubt that is true, I do believe that Dale would be out there collecting money on the streets if he had to, just to help the kids out...

I can't beleive what i'm reading....you people can't even take a 2 day break from your bashing and slamming....for God sakes people, let them raise some money for a good cause, and put away your critics hat for 48 hours....wow
