Good for Infinity... Bad for Radio

If you want to listen to professional sports you have to listen to an Infinity station (Eagles, Sixers, Flyers, and PHILLIES). Few exceptions: out of town sports, college sports on 990-950-920, and ESPN 920.

If you want to listen to talk, you pretty much have to listen to one of THREE Infinity Stations, not to mention KYW News/1060, also Infinity. Exceptions: conservative talk on 990, the talk on what 1340, etc. And 770 WABC NY.

Good for Infinity? Probably. They have a stranglehold on the talk market. Hope they don't cannibalize, they seem to be complementing each other well for now. However, the city's radio is oversaturated with Infinity's big talkers, and how is that a good thing for us? You don't have like the WRNB vs. WDAS competition keeping these talk stations honest (Little WRNB is winning that race big time IMO).

In Delaware, its CC that has most of the talk. Sports-WWTX, N/T-WILM and WDOV. Only Indie is WDEL. Faith City Church owns 1550 in Cecil County, which is ESPN Sports Radio. In NYC, WOR is Indie. So is WMCA, WWRL. In Baltimore, the talk giant is WBAL, also an Independant.

Philly also has 900AM talk and whatever it is on 1540. And when you throw WABC into th mix, you are talking about the number 1 N/T station in the country. Plus NYC has WBBR, possibly the LEAST listened to N/T in the country!

Infinity does not have it all, by a long shot.

Did you happen to read the MK piece about Steve Harvey? Joyner has LOST 43% of his audience since leaving WDAS...and WRNB just had a terrible book...not sure what race they are winning "big time". I feel bad for Carter & Sanborn, but they are radio vets that will land on their feet.

Add WJFK in DC, WFAN WINS WCBS in NY.... Infinity dominates talk in the mid-atlantic. WFAN is the biggest sports station in america and the home of IMUS, and the highest billing station in the biggest market in America and heard loud and clear in Philadelphia PA.
