John Mcaa got mad on the air last night because the wrong graphic was being shown on a story about West Texas Crude. Today around 5pm not one not two but three stories had the wrong crawlers., the wrong tape being rolled and a visibly p'o'ed Gloria Campos ready to pounce once the cast was over. It has gotten incredibly sloppy over there. Have the cuts at Belo really affected the pride in presentation or are they getting interns from a preschool?
 
It wouldn't surprise me to find that some of that stuff was automated - during that newscast, while John was reading about the price of crude and the picture of the felon was on the screen, Gloria commented that they hadn't updated the teleprompter. The system may tie in prompter, graphics, and video, although it'd probably be a custom-designed system, because I haven't heard of newsroom automation going quite that far yet. And if somebody cut-and-pasted some stuff from the 5pm show and didn't get around to correcting it for the six - well, hilarity doesn't ensue.

I don't really think things work the way they used to anymore. With budget cuts, I would be surprised if even a major market station like WFAA still had technical directors.
