One could use stronger language to denounce "Anchorwoman" but why compound a felony. The show is boring and should more accurately be titled "Annalisa Versus Lauren."

Highlights of the opening were Lauren complaining "there's no place to pee and I gotta pee," "it's hot out here," and "my hand smells like snot becase of that biker." And those are the high points.

Otherwise, it was a series of Lauren Jones doing or saying
something stupid and News Director Dan Delgado saying, "Don't do that." The only player that came off looking good was Stormy.

If the turkey lasts longer than whatever its original run is suppposed to be Fox is in deep trouble as far as programming is concerned. Hurley needs to find some other way to raise his ratings. This isn't it. He's had his 15 minutes of fame and he flamed out.
 
It's funny, I was at work while this was on-air, and I was watching it in the newsroom and all the news folks were tuned in. We all thought it was fairly entertaining. I still think Hurley is pond scum for putting this crap on the air. I love the blur marks over some of the CBS logos and such. Also, the fact that "Stormy The Weather Dog" is in their News Opens and Re-Opens. And, you gotta love how they talk about journalistic credibility like they still have it. Hurley was right in the quote I criticized him for in a previous post... news and entertainment are basically the same. They are if you're CBS, whoops, I mean KYTX 19. When I get home in the morning, I'm going to watch it again to see if I missed anything.

The show does seem like the spotlight tends to be on "Stormy" just as much as it is on Jones. Did "Stormy" insist that she have that much face time, when she was approached about doing the show. ;D ;)
 
To be honest, I'm still pretty good friends with most of the particpants...so I'm a little bias.

Actually, I thought it was pretty entertaining fluff overall. I'm probably the only one on this board that's worked with Phil Hurley a few times...hey, I like the guy. And I gotta' give him kudos for snaring the national spolight for CBS19, though many would say for all the wrong reasons.

I think Annalisa's not coming off very well...and she's a much nicer, decent person than she's being portrayed. I got my biggest chuckle from the man/woman on the street observations, especially the guy who kept referring to Laruen's "bluttocks" and "cleavages"....I laughed for 5 minutes over that. Although East Texas is being painted like its full of bumpkins.

For me, the most interesting part is watching the folks at 19 that insisted they be pixelated in certain shots. Its obvious some of the staff didn't want to participate. Which I think is a bit silly. Who wouldn't want a little national face time and maybe turn that into a bigger gig somewhere else?

The lines are blurred....Murrow and his boys are all dead....so let's just kick back and enjoy seeing people we know have a little fun on the national scene for awhile. We could all do a lot worse.
 
I found it to be amusing. The biggest audience this show will have are people who work in newsrooms. They can relate. I noticed from the CBS19 website that some folks aren't there anymore that had some face time on last nights show...like Doc. Where did he go? Totally different show, but highlights from the new Kelsey Grammar sitcom "Back To You" depics a female weather person who insists on being called a "meteorologist" because it makes her seem more "professional"...another charachter responds to her "That dress alone makes you seem more professional"; reminds me of the weekend weather girl that used to be at KCBD in Lubbock.
 
Our newsroom was tuned in most of the time, too. The odd part, to us, was that most of us have been through something similar: a person with no education or experience in the field coming in and being trained to go on the air.

The only difference is, most people who get that opportunity don't act like the whole thing's a big joke. It's one thing to get the chance: it's not brain surgery and a person who takes it seriously and applies himself/herself CAN get it and do pretty well.

Quote of the show: "So are we gonna jump out and act all newsy?"
 
I'm shocked it didn't do better, but I'm also shocked that shows like SPORTS NIGHT and STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP didn't do better either. They were great behind the scenes shows, of what goes on behind the scenes in newsrooms and television shows. I guess you have to be in this business to appreciate some of the humor and crap you go through from time to time. I wonder if they'll air the rest of the shows that they have done, on the FOX REALITY CHANNEL, which I have on DirecTV?!

I actually think Petralia came off looking good in it. Simply, because she was the most worried about the station's credibility and journalistic standards. Sure, there were hints of jealousy and pettiness on her part, but you can find that in any newsroom, if you look hard enough. Especially in the smaller markets, as people are climbing the ladder.

Oh well, I guess there's no "eye" in 19. ;)
 
I believe if I was the owner at channel 19.I would sack everybody..run sitcoms ,then retool with an Oct.1st start so credibility can be retored. Damage control has hit defon con 1. As far as the former NYC anchor..why is she working Tyler? Her star has flamed out. I suggest a career as a broadcast teacher or PR work
 
Well, I guess there's a kind of badge of honor in getting cancelled after one episode.

It joins shows like Turn-On, Public Morals, South of Sunset and the 'I-Still-Don't-Know-How-This-Didn't-Win-An-Emmy' Fox masterpiece, Who's Your Daddy?

I just feel bad that my buddies at CBS19 had to go through the filming hassles, intrusions, piling on etc...and only get one little episode on national TV.

Man, that's tough.
 
Referring to the suggestion that Lauren Jones take up either broadcast education or public relations--let's hope it would be the latter, country club journalism, as it were.

There is a cadre of respectable former broadcastes already teaching the finer points of the industry to aspiring practitioners. Then there are the phonies who were kicked out of another academic department and put in RTV "where they could do little damage." Jones, as one who wouldn't know a television studio if it fell on her, is among the second group. However, she could do PR for Michael Vick.
 
No Nuzguy, I was suggesting Annalisa to do that. NYC to Tyler...Whats wrong here folks? Judy went there from Dallas due to investment of property on the lake. Annalisa has fallen faster than a Perseids meteor shower.
 
That clears it up, then. Analisa, with the appropriate academic credentials, would probably make an excellent broadcasting instructor.

There would be no recommending Jones for anything.
 
PR wouldn't take her... it requires thinking and less "cleavages". She could go to say, Tacoma and become a publicist for a swank grunge band. I hear their snot doesn't smell that bad, but more of a mocha latte.
 
Hey, wait a sec....don't send Jones up here (Washington). I kinda' like my journalists wearing less make up.

And I think you guys are being a little hard on Annalisa. Again, full disclosure, she and I worked together at CBS19 when I was doing little entertainment features for them...I don't know the full story about her coming from NYC to Tyler, but I think it had more to do with the opportunity to anchor and produce at a network affiliated station than anything else. I always found her professional, hard working and a very nice person to hang around with.

Its a shame the whole Anchorwoman debacle (and cancellation) had to happen around her and others there. If I know Annalisa, I'm sure she thought the exposure (albeit for the trouble it caused) would eventually help her going to a larger market.

So, c'mon, lighten up a bit. Its only TV.
 
OK. I have to admit that, this afternoon, while still recovering from an allergic reaction that kept me in bed most of yesterday, I sat down and watched Anchorwoman. Here are my observations:

(1) Lauren Jones, while not great and certainly not weeknight anchor material, was far from the worst I've ever seen. If I turn on my local stations on the weekend and watch their news or watch the weekend news when visiting Dad in Springfield, I see anchors who would make you long for Lauren Jones. Yes, really. It's why, when I watch news on the weekends, I watch it from Kansas City and/or St. Louis.

(2) When it comes to the portrayal of Annalisa Petralia as the antagonistic psycho out to get Lauren, I just didn't see it. The only possible exception was the "she's an idiot" comment, which was rude, unprofessional and uncreative. Maybe, having heard the reviews, I was expecting more confrontation, but most of her concerns, as producer of the newscast, seemed reasonable. I wouldn't want my name in the credits of a newscast hosted by someone off the street with no real experience either. Yes, she seemed to have a little bit of an ego, but most of us in the broadcasting business do, or we wouldn't be in it in the first place.
 
I too got around to watching the show. I wasn't as offended as I thought I would be, but I really wasn't impressed with the production of the show either. The premise wasn't explained well and it just wasn't that entertaining. I was expecting more of a "simple life" type of program, but what I got was a rather bland poorly paced documentary.

TV Guide channel's "Making News: Texas Style" is a far better program. I've watched every episode of that program. It's very well done and very realistic. The real people are far better characters than this woman from WWE.

And by the way, the previous comment was correct: she's better than some small market anchors I've seen. If she really wants to be a news anchor, I hope she'll go back to a college somewhere and learn what journalism is. Either that, or go out and work as a reporter, photog, editor, producers, something.. in a small market. Learn the profession, then try to do the on air stuff. Until you're around it for a while you just don't know what it's really all about. She needs to watch a lot of tapes of good anchors to see how they do what they do. She needs to learn how to ask good questions. The one thing I did see was a willingness on her part to get out and talk to real people. That's a plus and something that some young reporters don't understand.
