Good Luck Channel 10

I see that Nexstar has purchased WTAJ-TV... it's like changing chairs on the Titanic. If 10 becomes anything like 22 or 28 in Wilkes-Barre, head for the hills.

Amen to that, WBRE is horrable station to watch. They actually just fired some people at WBRE to make way for the new news team. Rumor has it they are combining WBRE and WYOU together to make a joint news cast. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens to good old Channel 10

Long story short...

22 was bought by Nexstar in '96, fired their top 5 personalities cuz of $$.
22 & 28 entered into a shared services agreement, 22 moved to 28's building, sharing news resources.
Nexstar sold 22 to Bastet (now Mission), and bought 28.
22 & 28 air the same news program in the mornings and at noon.

22 & 28 (jokingly referred to as 50) still don't even come close to 16's ratings

Now, 22 is down to three on-air staff, but are debuting an interactive newscast this fall.
28 has a staff, but recently let go its morning weather guy and sports director.
Both stations have the same news director.

Insiders say morale is in the sewer. Tough situation for everyone working there. I know a few good people there, and they're aren't in the best of situations.

I say it again, good luck channel 10.

(Could some 10 ppl be moved to 22?)

THe sad thing is that Channel 10's newscast could take a major nosedive and it would still be worlds above the competitors. Fox's newscast is just horrid and ABC-23's has always been bad as well. Looks more like a college station reporting the news than an actual newscast in action. WJAC's newscast is ok...but for some reason Channel 10 has always been top of the pak. It will take far more than a few staff changes to crumble that, but I guess we will have to wait and see.

Everyone's talked about Nexstar's Wilkes-Barre stations... but what about JET-TV in Erie? I had always thought they were pretty good.

Nexstar also owns stations in my homestate (KARK, Little Rock & KNWA, in Fayetteville, AR)....and the Little Rock station has done very well.

I'm going for a "wait and see" approach on TV10's future.

JET isn't half the station it was a decade ago.

Face it, everyone in smaller markets are being forced to share staff and sevices and its only going to get worse the closer we get to mandatory HD. Ad revenues are in the tank and the cost of all of this new equipment is insane. Don't be surprised when you start seeing stations go dark because they just can't afford it anymore.

Channel 6 has been a farm club of 11 in Pittsburgh for several years now. How is this diffferent?
