Good Move by CNN

CNN, using a video wall with six camera inputs, a few minutes ago put together perhaps the best explanation yet describing the break in the levee that has accounted for much of the flooding in central New Orleans and surrounding area. Wolf Blitzer and correspondent Tom Foreman did a remarkable job augmenting the aerial and fly-in video with commentary pinpointing the problem area, and highlighting the fact that under ideal conditions it's going to take 80 days or more to achieve any significant degree of drying out of the city. Then, as they and others have said repeatedly, comes the need to deal with what lies underneath.

Yes, everyone's a critic but CNN exhibited some good work today on this part of the disaster story.

Didn't MSNBC use a forklift last Monday (August 29th) to illustrate the height of the storm surge??

They did an in-studio demonstration using an electric lift that's utilized for elevating lighting technicians into the grid. They mounted a camera on the lift and used it to shoot tight shots of a tape measure to illustrate how high various accumulations of water would be during the storm surge. It was very well done and highly effective.

I thought the MSNBC demo last week was effective, but many people were thinking "that ain't gonna happen" & it still makes it difficult to truly picture how devasting it'll look like (in addition to how devasting it truly would be).

Now that the pictures have been all over the TV for the past week and all you see are rooftops sticking out from the water, we see how real and horrific it truly is. Then later in the week when those storm chasers who were filming the storm surge coming in added even more horror to it.

Back to CNN, I did see that this afternoon in the last half-hour or so of "The Situation Room" and thought they did a fabolous job. Even more reason why CNN has put FOX News to shame during this coverage.
