Good new music out now

Son Volt has made a very credible comeback. It is truly a statement to his former friend Jeff Tweedy.

The New Pornographers album is superb as expected.

Two thumbs up on that. No reason that alt. radio shouldn't be all over "16 Military Wives"....looking forward to seeing them when they come through Cleveland in October.

Sufjan Stevens' album is really cool too.....nice picks.

I'll put my vote in for Idlewild's "Warnings/Promises" and Longwave's "There's A Fire" Both recently released....both solid albums.<P ID="signature">______________

It's not released here until October, but The Magic Numbers album (EMI) has an absolute KILLER single on it called "Love Me Like You". If you did well with "Big Sur" by The Thrills, you need to jump all over this one.

The Nine Black Alps EP (Universal) has a track called "Shot Down" that should be on every altrock station in the country.

The new Dandy Warhols single "Smoke It" (EMI) should finally break them into the big time.

Releasing later this month is the album "Give Blood" by The Brakes (Rough Trade), a side project from Eamonn of British Sea Power. The single in Britain is "All Night Disco Party" which occupies a space somewhere between Bloc Party and mid-80s DEVO. Wonderful single.

There is no excuse for anyone not to be playing Bob Mould's "Body of Song" (Yep Roc). He's been making great records for 25 years now and deserves some airplay.

The Nashville TN band Be Your Own Pet has a brilliant single out in Britain called "Fire Department" (Rough Trade) that needs immediate American distribution.

Other Brit imports in need of American distribution are "Bullets" by The Editors (Kitchenware), "Capture/Release" by the Rakes (Moshi Moshi), "Skin & Bones" by Fear of Music (Blowout), and will someone PLEASE release "Young for Eternity" by The Subways (Parlophone) which contains my favorite single of the year so far "Oh Yeah".
