Good News for Business 1110

This story could open the door for a signal upgrade at AM 1110 whose co-channel 20 KW DFW boomer has hit the mute button.

Christian Talk KVTT-AM/Dallas to Go Silent on July 12
M&M Broadcasters will take Christian Talk KVTT-AM (The Voice of Truth 1110)/Dallas-Fort Worth silent on July 11. According to the Star-Telegram, the station will discontinue operations as a result of "a casualty of the economic downturn and of dwindling AM listenership." Out are six fulltime staffers and two parttimers.

"We prayed hard about our situation so we believe that the 'season' for KVTT has come to an end at God's bidding. For the staff here, we are grateful for the time of ministry we enjoyed and are asking God to reveal our next steps," said GM Doug Price in the announcment on the station's web site. (07-09-10)

No, this isn't good news for KTEK. Nothing is going to happen with KTEK's signal because of this development, since whether or not D/FW's 1110 is on the air KTEK has to afford it protection as long as it remains licensed. M&M Broadcasting has the money to return with some kind of programming, which may happen fairly soon. I'd also expect a call letter change.

Although KVTT is presently having some technical issues they're likely to have the 50kW transmitter running at full power in the near future. That will make any proposed signal improvement for KTEK even more unlikely.
