8) As of listening this morning, 1510 has added hourly news, weather and sports reports to their line up. So if you already didn't tune in for the excellant content now you have more informational reasons to listen in. For the first day, it certainly sounds like they have some "go getters" doing these updates, certainly better than some I've heard on the bigger stations. I'm willing to bet this station is on the heels of TKK and will soon be taking on RKO and WBZ very soon. 8)

I have only one thing to say...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Thank you.

The lyrics of the classic popular song, "I Wish I Were in Love Again" are about the breakup of a relationship and not about radio, but they seem particularly appropriate here: "The furtive sigh/The blackened eye/The self-deception/That believes the lie." Sure, what you said is what you WANT to happen, but it ain't gonna! That's what the lyricist was alluding to when he wrote The self-deception/That believes the lie. Why am I so sure that it won't happen? Did 1510 run even one promo about the new hourly news/weather/sports? I do listen to the station a bit and I didn't hear word one. Santos may have done the impossible in lining up financial backers and getting Progressive talk on the air, but when it comes to the day-to-day tasks of running the 65 hours a week that he leases from Blackstrap, he just doesn't cut it--not even close!

I wish it was a better station. Having news won't hurt. Having a compelling show that ran during morning drive would be even better. They don't have that right now... a pity since the syndicated programming the rest of the day (Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz, Thom Hartmann) is very good.

I heard some announcemets, if not promos. So why does the lack of promos indicate failure (not that I'm all that sure that "success"or "failure" is dependant on overtaking another station - or is it simply being viable?)?

It could be a good morning show - without Santos! I wonder if he would be a big enough person to stand aside for the sake of the station. I wouldn't bet on it.

Amen, Brother! But...What does Blackstrap care, just as long as those Santos checks keep on clearing? Too bad Progressive talk couldn't get on the air in Boston any other way....

Don't be jealous and bitter Mr. Strassberg! The station is turning heads and chiming in ears!!! Your just upset that you can't be a part of it!!! Meanwhile, I'll continue listen to it while it continues to rise in the ratings!!!

Part if it??? Aside from guest appearances on Let's Talk About Radio on WJIB, which ended more than five years ago, the last time I "worked" in radio was when I was an undergraduate in college--at a campus-limited carrier-current AM station--more than half a century ago. I also announced a live musical program at the non-commercial AM that the college owned, I've never earned a cent (or tried to earn a cent) by working in radio. I'm just a radio hobbyist and occasional caller to talk shows. My thing is mostly the technical side of AM. I've never had any aspirations to do any air work at WWZN. I don't have the voice or temperament for it. And I certainly don't have the talent to do talk radio. As a radio geek, I rarely lack for opinions about radio, though.

Speaking of ratings, since WWZN does not subscribe to Arbitron, how will Jeff Santos know how many are listening to the programming he's paying for? It's hard to attract advertisers if you can't guarantee them a certain number of listeners. I very much enjoy Stephanie Miller and Ed Schultz and would hate to lose their shows again.

Also, after the upgrade to 50 kw, WKOX is doing even worse in the ratings than when it carried progressive talk (0.2 vs 0.5). How long will Clear Channel be able to keep the current programming on WKOX? I hardly imagine they can pay off the costs of the upgrade. Interestingly WXKS-AM is doing somewhat better than WKOX (0.3 vs 0.2) even with its more limited signal since the format split.

Gotta be the IBOC on 1430, right? ;>) I have a theory on why none of the three stations at 750 Sawmill Brook Parkway have turned on IBOC even though all three installed the necessary equipment and two of the three owners (CCU and Beasley) have been very vocal IBOC advocates. I have no basis for my theory other than a hunch, however. As is customary with signal upgrades and transmitter moves, all three stations must satisfy complaints of interference within the 1V/m "blanketing contour' for one year from the date a license ro cover was granted. I believe that two stations (WKOX and WRCA) received licenses this past May or June. WUNR's license was granted a month or more later. The stations might be waiting for the one-year period to end before adding any signals that could result in complaints other than the ones they have already addressed. The IBOC sidebands could be such signals (or the engineers could suspect those sidebands of being such signals).

I would imagine that in the case of shows or formats that have a loyal following...or lots of passion for them...then the sponsorships end up becoming a kind of "quasi-underwriting".

Of course...if the sponsors acutally DO notice an uptick in thier own cash registers as a result of sponsoring The Santos Network....OOPS!....I mean Progressive Talk on 1510, then that could be used as a concrete measurement.

That would be great news if it could possibly mean the return to music for 'XKS. Of course, Clear Channel would have to dump it before that happens. It would be interesting to see 'XKS ratings before the corporate vipers took them over and do a comparison of how they've been doing since. I wouldn't be at all suprised if the Music of Your Life crowd were that station's largest and most loyal of anyone.

It could have been pulling a 15.0 rating and advertisers still wouldn't bite. Or at best, they'd buy time but wouldn't pay nearly as much to get their messages -- most of which target the young, gullible and/or stupid -- on an MOYL AM with a bunch of 55+ listeners as they would to get them on an FM with a 4.0, all in the young money demographic.

The Morning show today was brilliant. Jammed packed from beginning to end. That show is easily building to be the best in Boston very, very soon. This guy Santos might have figured it out. I wish he would only take more calls, but hey you take the good with the bad and if thats the worst thing his show does then he and his team are way, way, WAY ahead of a lot of the others in Boston talk radio.

I wish I could take you seriously, but I can't. Based on your previous posts, when you say brilliant, most of the rest of us would say not too terrible or perhaps not ready for prime time but possibly showing some promise of eventually becoming ready for prime time. Either your standards are very low or you think that, by over-hyping as superb something that is, at its best, barely acceptable, you will help to secure the future of programming that is basically sub-standard and not of major-market quality. However, because you've established yourself as so biased that your opinions are not worth the bandwidth they consume, you are, at best, not helping your cause and at worst producing exactly the opposite reaction to the one you want to produce. Anyone who takes you seriously and tunes in as a result of your extravagant praise will have such high expectations that he cannot help but be disappointed and will be able to think of your postings only as a sad joke. Before you post again, please consider the down-side of going overboard.

It's unfortunate Mr. Strassberg that you've made up your mind on a program of which you've done little to no listening too. I challenge you to tune in and hear what is sounds like now. There are a number of new voices on there. I'm very much a progressive so I will admit my bias', this is a show that seems to have made improvements week after week atleast since I discovered it was on the air last January. Does Mr. Santos have his faults, certainly does. I stated that in a previous post, he's not the best prepared host you can hear that, but he's surrounded himself with good guests and a team there that covers for him.
Its known as am1510 revolution boston now

I've listened and I'm as much of a leftist as you can be and I still find Santos boring... sorry. Different strokes. I wish they'd put Stephanie Miller on at 9 and dump the local news at 5. A corporate newscast on a progressive station? Nope... and Thom Hartmann's last hour is missed. Fortunately, I can catch both on the internet when I'm home.
