Good riddance 93 Rock

So it looks as tHough the inevitable has happened. I turned on 93 Rock Saturday morning to find South Florida's holiday music station, 93.1. Then I went to the website and while it's still 93rock.com, they've taken off anything that points to them as being a rock station. I for one say, what took so long? Besides being the only station in this market that plays alt rock, it had nothing really going for it. There was little to no personality, lame branding and really some terrible sounding jocks. Coming from a rock background I will tell you that those listeners need to be engaged. They want to feel like part of the station and with no real attempt at providing good content to the listener or a sense of family, 93 Rock had no chance. Bubba is a Central Florida hick that never should have been considered for this market. There are plenty of people in SFL that would have listened to that station had it been done properly.

I've heard only good things about Kevin Vargas and wonder if it was just the Cox machine in Atlanta not allowing the station to be what it needed to. No matter as they look to be over. Next up, Spanish county!

Hey Guys:

Since it is COX it will probably be a clone classic hits station called "the eagle". Or that new classic alternative "the zone" that just happened in Houston.

You are right 93 ROCK never had chance!!! Why CC got rid of ZETA I have no clue!! If I qowned the cluster I would have never changed ZETA!!

CC had a chance to have a good rock cluster in this market:

ZETA 94.9 Alternative

103.5 turn to AOR as SHE

Classic Rock BIG 105.9

This is what I would do or what I would have done!!

so how long until cc flips 94.9 or 103.5 to rock ???

94.9 has averaged within the top 5 25-54 and 18-49 during this year... in a market that will be well over 50% Hispanic when the 2010 Census comes out, that is a guarantee of excellent revenues. 103.5 is a news launch without much history, but in combo with WMGE may have much more synergy than having another rock station.

Given the demographic makeup of the market, you'd have gotten smoked.

Do you think it will go back To CHR/Dance Format As Party 931

I went to the website. They mentioned "A Better Party Begins Soon!"

Hmmm, you have to wonder why they put that message there....

RadioInsight had this on their Twitter...

Cox' "93 Rock" WHDR Miami has flipped to All-Christmas and will change formats after the holidays.

When will they learn that South Florida is not a rock format market. ::)

Id like to see them flip back to Dance or Classical,, both formats where the best I seen on 93.1,, I look for Dance to come back given its heightened popularity lately,, but with a more current friendly and mainstream electro Pop sound than the old station.. Think about it,, both MIA 93.9 and Power 96 are both playing dance now. Even Y-100 plays a lil bit. If they dont flip it back to dance,, then they are stupid.

In Los angeles KIIS Plays Alot More Dance/House Mixes During There Mix shows Plus Friday Night Elect. Pop/Sound Plus KSSE FM Has House/Dance Sunday Morning 1am-4am

I would like to see CHR/dance come back to Miami, knowing that it's a very dance-friendly town. I'm betting they may likely go CHR/rhythmic to battle out Power 96 though.

To say that rock doesn't work because of the Hispanic population is just absurd. I know plenty of Hispanics that listen to rock music. If you put a compelling, listener friendly station together, it will work. The only reason rock hasn't worked well in this market is because the stations have been crap.

So With 93.1 dropping rock and 93.9 looking likie theyre dropping The Movin Variation Cause Theyre In Christmas Mode As Well......
