they are picking up 3 feeenix properties.

anncmnt w/in 30 days.

i'm guessing that the team at cbs feeenix would have preferred a company from outside the market...

My Predictions:

Lumberyard 1440: In a 3-way swap between SeeBS, Gumpdumpsky and TMISU, Bonneville gets this historic Ancient Modulation station. Look for a new, upgraded digital lamptimer; 24/7 Donny & Marie format; goin coconuts!!! ;D

KOOL: TMISU drop the oldies format, changes station to K-MoMo, a 24/7 Mormon Tabernacle Choir station. Music and the spoken word never sounded so good! ;)

KMLE: TMISU hire the Osmond brothers to program a Branson-style, family-friendly country station. No more humping on this station!!! ;D

All Music and The Spoken Word, all the time.

If true, not bad:

KOOL and KMLE are good fits as they are....a couple of tweaks and 101.5 is Bonneville-friendly, too.

So the landscape would be:

Clear Channel

550
910
1230
95.5
96.9
99.9
102.5
104.7

Bonneville

620
92.3
94.5
98.7
101.5
107.9

Sandusky

1060
1440
93.3
97.9
100.7

Bonneville would join Clear Channel in having the max number of FMs. They could take another two AMs, but why?

It would be great to see if Bonneville gets these properties in 30 days! They will treat them very well, as Bonneville is in a long term relationship with the former State of Deseret (Phoenix)

Sandusky is very happy being the ROCK WALL of Phoenix

Clear Channel is content with their female friendly cluster

Bonneville has the powerful KTAR-A/F and 98.7 The Peak holds its own too.

Riviera...well, nevermind

Bonneville would end up with great stablemates KMLE and KOOL which fit within the principals of the church. KZON is the sticking point, but tweaked a little sure it could fit what they need. I wouldnt be too shocked to see them swallow the Rhythmic format for a couple of months.

If this happens, which I have heard a ton of people and figure heads saying it will...Bonneville will have-

92.3 KTAR News/Talk
620 KTAR Sports/Talk

94.5 KOOL Classic Hits
98.7 KPKX Adult Hits

107.9 KMLE Country

101.5 - The only format that really is doing well and fits is CHR as a bonus/combo sell to 94.5/98.7. Could they pull a Chicago/Cincinnati to make it a well programmed Hot AC/CHR Hybrid forcing KMVA to lean more Rhythmic?

Doesn't matter to TMISU what the Mormon population is in their markets. They're big in Chicago - a city with a Mormon population of maybe a few thousand out of 8.5 million - and have been for decades. It didn't matter a decade or so ago when they sold 740 and 96.9 and had no presence here for several years.

This is a commercial venture, not a religious one, and they make a point of keeping church and business separate. The only connection I've heard on any of their stations is Mormon PSAs on 620 overnights, when they don't sell the time.

Sandusky is very happy being the ROCK WALL of Phoenix

The lumberyard sells rocks in their back lot. ;D

Clear Channel is content with their female friendly cluster

And their angry-geezer-friendly AMs as well?

If this does happen (and I won't consider this to be reality until an announcement is made), I can see sports simulcast on either 101.5 or 98.7 (with the peak moving to 101.5), under the KMVP call letters.

Not without doing damage to the Peak. I don't see KMVA as a factor in any decisions they make. Hot AC is basically adult CHR these days with all the Gaga and Ke$ha spins.

They could import their Rewind concept (70's/80's pop) as a younger compliment to KOOL. Or they could just leave everything alone.

But then they've essentially killed 620.

Eventually they'll have to anyway. AM is on its way out, and Phoenix only has two 24-hour market-wide AM signals (550 and 620, and 550's 1000 watts is iffy at night in outlying areas).

If the speculation about KFYI-FM 95.5 eventually happens, then KTAR will be the last viable AM standing (who knows what CC would put on 550). Sports is already migrating to FM in other big markets (Boston, Dallas, Philly, possibly Chicago and/or New York in the next year or two) and the trend won't be reversing. In time, CC will have to move XTRA to FM as well if they want to survive.

Yeah, but the difference between eventually and doing it sooner than you need to is millions in revenue.

That requires strategery and vision (beyond slashing budgets), two things in short supply over at Cheap Channel.

I dont see them taking 1015 hot ac as it would overlap with 987 too much, and the 70s/80s rewind thing would overlap with both kool and the peak. I think they will either keep jamz for a while and may try to make a few tweaks to it. Problem is, it is already pretty vanilla for a rhythmic and tweaking it too much will only allow power to pick up more steam on them. The other option I can see them doing is moving sports to 1015. They wont be able to call it Ktar anymore with 92.3 in the picture but the KZON calls are perfect for sports, sports zone 1015. Then I could see them either selling 620 or putting a religious format of some sort on there.

Whoa...not so fast Mr Stay Thirsty look-a-like man! TMISU still own 8~Sixty, even though they wish they didn't ::)

As far as Sportstalk on 101~Five, aint gonna happen. 6~Twenty is a great facility day and night for sports, so why decimate it by moving to FM? TMISU have a lock on every major sports team in the Valley except the Coyotes. And Sports Parking lot 6~Twenty's audience is fat and happy with Ancient Modulation.

What about a sports simulcast with 620 AM and 101.5 FM? CBS is doing that in Detroit with 1270 AM & 97.1 FM. The branding is "97.1 The Team" on both AM and FM. WXYT-AM-FM has all four Detroit pro teams. Conflict games go to other stations in CBS' Detroit cluster. The top station in this is 97.1, with help from sister stations 1270 AM and 950 AM (WWJ). WXYT-AM-FM has been a huge success in Detroit, ranking at #1 with a 6.9 rating.

This scenario gives all Phoenix-area teams, except the Coyotes, a presence on FM. If the Coyotes have another successful season, they'll want to get off Ancient Modulation as well! :)

The fez-wearing physician from Buckeye speaks the Gospel truth.

Stay hydrated my friend.

(It's summer in Phoenix. To say "thirsty" just to sell some beer would be irresponsible)

Wait.....does Bonneville still owns 860 KMVP or they sold the station off?

http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/callsign/query.hts?Form_Level=callsign&Call_Sign=KMVP

They had a buyer a while back who couldn't close the deal. TMISU retain ownership and lease out the air time, presumably until someone else comes along with the $$ to buy it. As Nurse Jeff and I've said for some time, Immaculate Heart should have bought 8~Sixty instead of 13~Ten. $1m for 13~Ten was a Starbucks price for a cup of Circle K joe.

Doc, so where is the giant fez that's supposed to be adorning the scenery along
I-10 in Buckeye? Photographs--aerials, ground level--just can't seem to find it.

I ask since where there's a giant fez, there's a Media Hut, and if Bonneville just
doesn't have enough space in its new digs to possibly add three more stations,
perhaps you could sublet some Hut space to one of the alleged acquisitions.

Let's see, which apparent former CBSers would want to be housed in Buckeye...
the KOOL boss jocks? KMLE jockeys? The cleaned-up for their new corporate
bosses KZONers? And, what's to become of the historic KOY Building?

Maybe better to open up a car dealership instead. I can hear the pitch now...
"We wanna seeeeeeee-ya, in a Dr. Akbar Kiiiiiiiiiii-a!" ;D
