Good thing Bonneville has the extra space...

Does anyone have the source for this story that Bonneville has bought CBS?

TMISU have bought all of See BS? YIKES! Wonder what kind of golden parachute Les Moonves is packin? If this is true, then this rumor is even better than the one that started this topic.

It's not a rumor about Bonneville buying CBS, it's CBS desiring to sell some
radio properties below the "major market" rank (guess that means below the
top ten) and Phoenix was one of the markets mentioned.

The Men In Secret Underwear have a ton of gold down there too (I mean inside the basement of the temple).

I have heard this is not a religious thing...okay, i see that. However they made a really good switcharoo to get into Phoenix. They could have had a stronger platform in Chicago...but no...they WANTED into Phoenix.

They also want more in Seattle too! So maybe look for something there eventually as well.

It would be great to see if Bonneville gets these properties in 30 days! They will treat them very well, as Bonneville is in a long term relationship with the former State of Deseret (Phoenix)

Sandusky is very happy being the ROCK WALL of Phoenix

Bonneville would end up with great stablemates KMLE and KOOL which fit within the principals of the church. KZON is the sticking point, but tweaked a little sure it could fit what they need. I wouldnt be too shocked to see them swallow the Rhythmic format for a couple of months.

Sandusky may be happy being the ROCK WALL of Phoenix, but while KUPD and KSLX are strong, heritage rocker KDKB isn't. KZON is doing well, but is it acceptable to Bonneville long-term as a rhythmic CHR?

If Bonneville (should it acquire CBS' Phoenix cluster) chooses to take 101.5 in a different direction (perhaps sports), would an intellectual property swap with 93.3 be a possibility? Or is Sandusky determined to keep KDKB a rocker, no matter what its ratings are.

While Sandusky's Phoenix cluster rocks, their Seattle cluster is totally different, soft AC, smooth jazz and rhythmic AC. :)

The only market they're in that doesn't make sense is El Lay, where the cluster consists of KSWD, KSWD and KSWD. There's something about running one station is a major market that's just so 19~Eighties. The Nurse and I can only speculate TMISU bought it as an investment, knowing some other group would want to pay big bucks for it one day. Hmmmmm....too bad See BS is maxed out on FM's in El Lay, cause a swap of KOOL, KMLE & KZON for 100 point Three would get KNX 10~Seventy on FM.

Bonneville made a big investment in 100.3 LA, $137.5MM just two years ago. Who's going to pay that amount? KSWD (100.3 The Sound, AOR) is one of the lowest rated FMs in LA with a 2.3. :)

There are sixteen FMs above them and fourteen below in May's PPM. The station is #19 in a market of more than forty rated stations. It's not exactly hobbled.

Granted, for the foreseeable future, nobody is gonna pay nine-figures for any one station anywhere in the country no matter how good the numbers are. But a station strong enough to not only post a ~1.5M monthly cume but to be building that number in an era where ears are increasingly tough for terr rad to find is gonna draw serious bidders if it ever hits the market.

EDIT: Typo.

We'll have to put out a call on the Fezphone to the Old Gringo for KSWD demos and sales numbers. As the Nurse and I've already said, we think this is an Ace up the sleeve for TMISU to either sell or trade. But why would anyone believe a thing a bunch of Gremlin drivers say?

That, alone, is the big question. Maybe they had a plan for additional purchases before the economy turned, the ad market disinflated and station prices collapsed. Also keep in mind that the Church's investment management and strategy seems to have changed, too.

Of the Class B's in LA, in the sales demos, four rank below KSWD... and they are around 15th or so in 25-54. The issue is whether that rank and the AQH levels can get them on buys when, to a buyer, rockers like KROQ, KYSR, and KLOS are well ahead. And, yes, to most buyers, the various flavors of rock are not all that important; CPP is.
